I believe there is a God...

I would rather take a chance and believe in something, then have no hope for the rest of my life.

Who does it hurt?

it hurts you... see according to all these little rules you have to abide by, believing in him/it/her/whatever isnt enough. you have to practice your faith and do all these things. you have to contribute to the good of your faith, etc.

if organized religion was a person, it would be VERY self-aggrandized, ignorant, selfish and solipsistic....

There can be no god.. :D

its because of sin, that we have war, starving, poor and rich far apart, etc. when god was number 1 to the human race, there was no suffering, no war, and that was in the days before the fall of man, adam eve disobeying god, and disobedience to god is sin.

where do we get our logic, our rationality? is it necesarry for survival to begin to discover mathematics? to be with one partner for life? where does the order in the world, in the universe come from? physics, chemistry, and other sciences study the order of the world around us. to have order, there must be something to have set the rules of that order in place. i dont think the all the laws of science just spontaneously made themselves. light travels through a vacuum always at the same speed. the distance around a circle is always 3.14--- . why does light not go faster than that? and where does infinite come from? everything ive seen has had a beginning. the planets, organisms, the stars. they all have an age. but what created all the planets, all the stars, the entire universe. something without age, without a beginning, and without an end, not bound by the laws of space and time. therefore, god must be outside of this creation and we are inside of the creation.

its my belief that god can speak things into existance, out of nothing. hence, the big bang could be a rational theory if something could be created out of nothing.

to me, it is only rational and logical, that there is a god.

i would have to ask what the definition of "God" is. limiting our interpretation of "God" to that of what is portrayed by organised religion is nothing short of myopic.

god
n.

God-
A being conceived as the perfect, omnipotent, omniscient originator, creator and ruler of the universe, the principal object of faith and worship in monotheistic religions.

anyone can dig up a dictionary definition. the trouble is, that definition is based on an incomplete understanding. the image of "God" differs from each viewpoint. for example, a Theistic image of God would differ to a Deistic image. one may also disagree with the above definition, and point out that God is omnibenevolent, or isn't omnipotent, or actually is the Universe. and then there's Dualism, Polytheism...

good point, and so ill talk about one specific god, one i believe to be the only true one, which fits the above definition above. that god would be the god of abraham, isaac, and jacob, and the god that sent jesus as the messiah.

God exists and, similataneously, doesn't exist.

This thread is proof of that.
