there is god but there is no church.

Um, just a tad wee off topic...

I am really peeved at the fact I have to be baptised before I get married!! It upsets me because first off I am not religious. Dont get me wrong I think religion CAN be beautiful, charming, peaceful and deep, but I do not believe in God. Secondly I will feel as though I am mocking my religion ( I am supposed to be Orthodox)and the priest, church because I wont be doing it with the right intent, and understanding. SO SORRY but I had to vent:nervous:

do i believe in god? answer yes and no....im neither religious nor an athiest......what i am is a realist......heres my theory:

first of all, who is jesus? .he made water into wine....he aint that special, illusionists these days can make a scarf turn into a dove or saw a pretty woman in half without killing her......my point is that, thousands of years ago, if you did something like that, people was so nieve that they thought he was special. however he mightve been a historical magictian or illustionist that conned people.

no proof of his existance....so it could all have been a myth or folk legend thats past through the ages, (kinda like robin hood, etc)

the virgin mary? whatever......she mightve been screwed by someone else! it happens to this day doesnt it?

three wise men? well when someone has a baby....family, friends always bring gifts and stuff anyway......dont they, even if its just clothes or whatever....

to believe in god is to believe in the devil......everything has to have an opposite....good+bad, up+down, black+white, and so on, etc
well if the fallen angel that decieved god and became the devil then what was the opposite of god before that, and what did he represent?

the bible is always contradicting itself, one quote is that there is no life on other planets other than earth.......well what about fossilised bacteria that was discovered on a rock sample from mars...isnt that life, albeit primitive life?

the bible is always changing, and different religions are changing there version to suit themselfes....the sikh religion is only 370 years old.........that means that 370 years ago someone decided to create a religion? usually when im bored i will make trance music :tongue2 and not a religion.

the reason for religion and god, is faith in something higher protecting us. well think about this, if it was proved that god didnt exist then we would have more wars, famine, and death....people would become heartless and vicious. without having a care in the world or for anyone else.....

'The reason for god, and faith is to keep society under control'

the only race i believe in, is the human race. keep the peace and love your friends. You'll feel much better.

Think about this philosophy please and i would appreciate your feedback.......good or bad.

Yeah, good post, villus. I recklon that could be about right- without religion, and the belief that if you do something "bad" you'll be punished, people will have to rely on their own set of morals. ...I think we all know what the world would be like - full of wars, killing, all that stuff. It's already bad enough as it is, let alone if (the majority) of people thought that this time on this world was the only one you're ever going to see. :nervous: Doesn't bear thinking about, does it?

I reckon if people were forced to live by their morals, and they didn't believe in any god (as a whole), then everything would go to hell in a handbasket VERY quickly. We'd see something like Mad Max happening. (For those that don't know what I'm on about, go to here: http://www.zip.com.au/~alexm/madmax/ , then click on Chronology). Only problem with that is, it'd be kinda cool to drive around in a blown XC Coupe... :thepirate

Ah man, dont get me started on whether or not there's a god. At risk of alienating myself from my religious mates, I'd have to say there isnt. I think that stories from the Bible (or whatever Holy Book you read) are exagerations of the truth, that were told to make a point (much like Easop's Fables) but which got blown out of proportion as they were told through the ages. Right up until today when people take them literally.

The reason these stories exist is because of the human nature to understand everything. Back in the day, our undertanding of science was very limited, but people still wanted to know how everything worked; why the sun rose every day, why life itself exists. As science couldnt answer these questions, the concept of a 'higher being' was introduced to explain away things that science couldnt.

But as our scientific knowledge of the universe expands by the day, we can explain the majority of things that were previously explained as an 'act of god'. If the trend continues, soon there will be very little that we dont scientifically understand, and the concept of a God will become obsolete.

Essay over, A+

:p
