BIG UP OLIVER !

Well, there is such a thing as Hard Trance.. Oliver did play some of that(Steve Murano Remix of It's a fine day), but for the most part it was hard style, with just hard beats and little melody. I'm not criticizing Mark at all, but I'm just curious at his choice of music at the end of Trance parties.

ks, PROPPA review time ..

Goodness.. i don't even know how to start this off. But let's just say that this will surely be one of the most memorable nights of my life. It had been almost exactly 2 years since I last saw PVD, at the very same spot and venue. A reunion of friends as well since most of the peeps I had partied with 2 years that day were back in attendance tonight. And after last nite, I felt as if I had come full circle.

To start off, I wanna appologize to everyone for not being able to make the pre-meetup. I got a little sidetracked since my family had originally planned Thanksgiving dinner for Sat. nite but then instead moved it to Sunday nite with all my relatives so I ended up leaving the house around 9:30pm with Raverfriendly and had to pick up some friends up in Vaughan before heading downtown.

Anyways, after finally getting there I didn't exactly get inside all that quick either. Bumped into Cuzo and his crew along with 2 of John's friends in the line. I ended up having to lineup an equivalent of 3 times before getting into the venue. Why? Because I was holding 3 tickets and 1 VIP pass which were all meant for other people! I literally lined up longer than most people without VIP passes ! Ah wells .. the things we do.. :D

The Set

Nevertheless it was a minor issue and the only low point of the night but once inside, the magic began as I truly began to understand why I love this DJ so much and why he will always truly be my #1 DJ of ALL TIME. Paul Van Dyk's set was absolutely magnificent in almost every way, from his mixing to track selection to the overall flow - it was a journey like none other. OFten at times DJ's will play tracks as they sense the crowd's reaction, but in this sense, the crowd almost certainly senses PVD's. He doesn't simply play the music, but in a way creates it right there. I will never forget the reason why I got into trance in the first place - 2 tracks: For and Angel, and Binary Finary's 1998 (PVD Mix), both of which he was responsible for composing and mixing.

It was unbelieveable to think that he only played for 3.5 hours, more than he was slated to that night might I add, as you would only want the night to go on forever.

The Venue

WElls the place was decked out with some kinda superhero comic book theme, but everything looked all posh and sharp as usual. Great thing to see esp. for the 7 year ann. I especially liked the nifty orbital inlet lights they had behind Paul and the programming effects on them.

The Crowd

Oddly, I didn't find it to be too crowded at all. The Guvernment room which I loathe was ram packed as usual but it was actually fairly comfortable in the Koolhaus imo. People were generally friendly as you could sense everyone was comin off a pretty cool vibe and there for the same reason.

I will never forget towards the beginning of the night, standin in the middle of all the TA's as Paul took the decks and unleashed his first track to a response of torrent euphoria from the crowd. All hands in the air and bodies literally flying everywhere. Completely unbelieveable! I have never seen that kind of energy before in the Koolhaus. It was like taking everything that was experienced at Viva during Dumonde's set and multiplying that to scale of the KH venue.

THE TA's

Support those who support you. What would a party be without all you guys. To be able to walk inside a club and recognize about a million and one faces is something truly unbelieveable. I felt like some popular asian drug dealer as people would constantly come up and tap on my shoulder to say hello or some other barely inaudible gibberish. You guys were the pinacle of the vibe in that place and literally fed and gave back the energy given by Paul. One memorable moment of the night was when I walked up to sober_24_7 before Paul's set as everyone was getting hyped to the sounds of Mark Oliver and said:

"There's something in the air tonite, I can feel it. And it's not weed."

I can no longer give individual shoutouts since there are so many of you! But I want to give atleast a couple of special shouts and thanks to some of the new people whom I met last nite that added to this great experience:

First and foremost:
E2EK1EL - my partner in crime and bodmon, support those who support u, BIG IT UP! You are not just a TA, but part of the reason why this is not just a community but a movement all in itself. Honestly thanks for everything last nite and especially grabbing my from the mailbox, u know wot i mean.

Shoutouts:
TATGIRL - for getting you to take some of my pics. and don't worry about the toy, if there was any party to hav it break, this was the one! end of an era indeed!

RAVERFRIENDLY - Pete, it was amazing having the chance to party it up with you and Lisa again. I hope this truly gets you back into the groove of things. And what better way to do it than with PVD himself! Also thanks for the ride down.

To tha new skool kru:
CHANOA - finally get a chance to meet ya after so long. you bring a wickid vibe to tha place! Also great to meet Steve, u know u gotta get him to signup now that he's been infected by the TA vibe virus.

HEATSOURCE - Thanks for recognizing me man! It starts to get real crazy when there's so many people around you and you're not even sure who you've met or haven't before.

VICTOR - for guttin it out with me in the autograph pit for a good half hour while my left arm turned to rubber.

LADYLOTUS - Beware of E2EK1EL ! ;)

PEOPLE I LEFT OUT - And I know there's some! plz. lemme know!

AND A BIG NO THANKS TO:
RABBITJOKER - DOOD, Fido charges me every time i receive an SMS message on my mobile. And you sent me like 3 or 4 messages juss saying "Thanks for everything tonite.". Bro, u owe me 60 cents. btw, to save 10 cents here ya go: "u R welcome!"

It was also so great to see and bump into all sorts of people last nite whom I knew ranging from highschool friends, uni friends, and co-workers. It truly felt as if the whole world was there!

And of course shouts out to all the usual suspects TOTA'z, u know who u are mofo'z!

AND FINALLY A BIG THANKS TO:
PAUL VAN DYK
For signing my Global DVD sleeve, and reminding me why I became a tranceaddict in the first place.
hansolo
PVD = Amazing. Pounding ridiculous beats. His set was unique and a special 2 year return blaster for us Torontonian's.

Nice to see the TA's out in full force.

BIG UP OLIVER !

exactly...part of the reason he closed was probably because hes been an integral part of the guvs growth and success in the last 7 years....and playing a softer set woulda just lost the vibe that PVD beautifully created with his genius....

Happy Bday Guv!!!

I saw Armin the night before, and while Armin remains my personal idol and fav DJ, he didn't even come close to matching the genious of PVD.

I can die happy now *smile*

yeah, it's become clear to me that PvD has the clear upper hand when it comes to technical skills. My God, his mixing was so tight. What he lacks in personality compared to Tiesto, Armin, Ferry, etc...he makes up for with brilliant execution and selection. But as I said before, PvD is NOT the stiff brick that a lot of people have said he is. He was having a great time up there, smiling and waving, signing stuff and dancing away.

Over the last few months, PvD has quickly got more playtime in my car and on my computer. His show last night cements it....behind Tiesto, there lies PvD for me.

I loved the effect of those lights during PvD's remix of Empire. It wasn't anything special; the lights just lit up, one row at a time, from bottom to top, but set the energy of the build so well that it was unbelievable.

Incredible night. I wish I could relive it again. This is definately up there; probably 2nd best party I've been to (right behind LoL2003).

What an amazing night.

I was disappointed with PVD's track selection, almost fell asleep only to be woken up by none other then our beloved PP along with her barbie sidekicks. Deep Dish was another story, and they stole the night.

well you're obviously not a trance fan then. Why did you even bother with PvD? It was anything BUT boring.
