Listen to the last few tracks where he does the crazy thing of mixing Taub 2002 into Jericho-Personal Reflexion. That mix did wonders in the dancefloor, it was such an adrenaline rush, but it violates all the edm mixing standards, which is why i find it so fascinating. |
Another UKTA once dared me to mix for an angel into the derb rmx of trance & acid, can I call myself creative now :p |

Is that not just another way of saying "unstructured"? ;) |

depends on what you mean with "structure". if you use "unstructured" to describe the kind of mixes i'm talking about then i would say that the term is a good thing, because it further evidences his innovation of breaking off from the boundaries of socially-imposed structural bounds, which are all anachronistic in its limiting nature.
but fact is, i like structure and that's why I like European trance rather than goa/psy, because I still adhere to ABA forms of musicmaking. the important thing is to alter the structure and still work within it, and that's what the best edm artists have done over the last 25 years. |

| :o This discussion could go on and on. was never really a big tiesto fan. bought TIC out of curiosity and see what all the hype is about. I'm pretty impressed, but don't want to judge based purely on the 3 hours that were covered and the few livesets i have of him. i'll make a better decision after seeing him at Ultra and Space later this month. |

Ok.. this is a somewhat different approach, but check it.
I've seen Tool live 4 times. First time i saw them, they sounded so ty, and this is a band who is known for performing awesome at their live shows. Second time I went, i can't even express how good they were. Third time, even better than previous time. Fourth, they sucked. Now.. my point is that DJs performing live are just like bands performing live. Sometimes they will sound good, sometimes they wont. However, compared to rock bands.. DJs play more, travel more. For this reason, they are more likely to have a ty night due to their lifestyle. You can't expect Tiesto or any other DJ to always beatmatch and mix perfectly. Tiesto has proven that he can do both well enough, but you can't blame the man for not delivering at all times. He is one of the best track selectors, crowd pleasers, and producers that i know. I'm not into trance much anymore, but Tiesto is still my numero uno trance dj/producer. |
