LOL are you seriously trying to say that Bertuzzi's apology wasn't sincere? |
Not as much as Canucks fans think it was... why didn't he wait till after the ruling? He had his meeting, then had to IMMEDIATELY call a press conference after finding out his decision would come the next morning?? Come on. Why not address the suspension and the incident all in one shot?? He had to feel that by doing it right away, he might get a little bit of a reprieve. |

it does not matter how sincere the apology is...you have to take the punishment for your actions.
i have to admit tho
brian burke is a funny mofo
yelling at the media during the press conference. |

As per Brian Burke's press conference 15 minutes ago, Bertuzzi wanted to apologize immediately after the game, and on tuesday before the hearing altogether, but couldn't hold himself together long enough to address the media.
I think Burke said pretty much everything I would want to say in regards to this, so if anyone cares for the opinion of the team, my personal opinion and the opinion of most true canucks fans then you find the transcript of his press conference this morning. |

I honestly couldn't watch that conference for more than 2 min... what was Burke yelling at the media for? |

Yep, press conferences with Burke are always very entertaining. As for the apology statement, I agree, and so does the Canucks franchise. Like Burke said though, the process of judging the amount of the suspension goes in the order of 1) The action itself, 2) the Intent, 3) the extent of the injury. Based on those three points and past infractions they've ruled against, the punishment is WAY too severe; it's just brutally inconsistent with every other ruling, and the reason for that IMO is the media crucifixion of Bertuzzi over all of this.
I think it's pretty safe to assume that the Canucks will be appealing this as soon as they are able to. For the meantime I hope that our team can put this behind them and focus on hockey post-Bertuzzi. |

I don't get how you can say one thing and then the other right after it... how is the punishment way too severe based on those 3 factors??
1) The Action itself - He chased Moore around and suckerpunched him because Moore didn't want to fight him after fighting earlier on in the night.
2) The Intent - He knocked him out, threw his face into the ice and continued to punch him. I know he didn't know he was out cold, but it doesn't matter. He wanted to suckerpunch him, drive his head into the ice and continue beating on him.
3) The Extent of the Injury - He broke his bloody neck.
None of these have ever occurred the way it did in this incident so you can't go on past suspensions. This suspension was bare minimum if anything. |

way too severe...they are lucky i'm not colin campbell....would have been a year suspension.
see bertuzzi is a class guy i guess but that incident showed him for what he really is...a gutless coward.
too severe
you break a guy's neck with a cheap shot
i mean moore fought cooke in the 1st period (retribution over)...
then van hellamond went to both dressing rooms in the 1st period and said tread very lightly. |

Ummm, you're way off.
1) The action. -- BAD, yes. As bad as swinging your stick as hard as you can at a player that has no idea you're there and connecting with the side of his head? Not a chance.
2) The intent. -- The intent was not to fracture his neck or cause any serious injury. I think Bertuzzi's apology should have cleared that up.
3) The injury. -- Moore will be skating in 4-6 weeks. It was not a broken neck, it was a minor fracture to 2 of the verts in it. Marco Sturm will be out for 5x as long as Moore for skating into the bloody boards.
How this warrants the longest suspension in NHL history is beyond me. |

as my mother said after i beat the hell out of my brother.....sorry does not fix things...nor does it excuse the behavior
moore is not going to be skating in 4-6 weeks...where you hear that. He is having neck surgery and is gone at least 6 months.
See even if I was a Canuck fan, I would have called for bertuzzi to have the book thrown at him. I'm a hockey fan firstmost and when you play the game as long as I did (14 yrs), you understand the code..you go for payback but you do it face to face...not with cheapshots. The fight between cooke and moore in the 1st period should have settled the score and that should have been over. See if Bertuzzi had attacked someone who got suspended for a hit....i would have said the same.....throw the book at him. Bertuzzi maliciously sucker punched a player for no reason from behind (player did not have the puck)...so that's automatic 2 games then throwing him to the ice and him leaving on a stretcher and 2 broken bones in his neck. That's the kicker...and that is why he deserves the suspension and it is not the longest in NHL history...remember marty got an entire year for his stickwork, yet 24 games suspension then he retired....but the year suspension still stands. Bertuzzi is a not a true cdn...most true cdn know you take payback with a fight on the ice, not a gutless sucker punch. I have no sympathy for bertuzzi because no matter how many times he says sorry...it will never reverse the damage from the incident. He should have thought that out before he did it. |

In the end of it, it comes down to this. Vancouver Canucks fans have one view. Everybody else has another. Consider me everybody else. Everybody else believes the suspension is not long enough. Only Canucks fans are piping up about it being way too long. I know you aren't trying to be biased and neither am I. I'm looking at it objectively... a f**king coward stalked somebody, jumped him from behind, drove his head into the ice and continued to hit him.
Like I said in my previous post. McSorley wacked Brashear on the head yes, but only once. He didn't try to keep slashing him when he was down. Neither did Domi or Johnson with thier incidents. Bertuzzi suckerpunched Moore, then drove his head into the ice... what did he expect to do with that action?? And then, he tried to continue beating on him. About Bertuzzi's apology clearing up his intent... what is he supposed to say if he really was trying to break his neck or really injure him?? Of course he had to say that one way or the other. As far as the injury goes, a fractured neck is a fractured neck. Just because he doesn't have to wheel his way around for the rest of his life does not mean that Bertuzzi should have a reprieve on the injury.
And I think they considered Bertuzzi's past, or rather they should have if they didn't. This is a guy who jumped off a bench before to get into a fight... cost him 10 games. So this is the second time that he's jumped somebody from behind now. That should be the only precedent considered in this ruling.
12-16 games is nothing for this incident. He should get way more when/if hockey resumes next season. |

and you don't think the avs are not pissed off and secretly vowing revenge.
i mean i'm a habs fan and if our goalie pulled that stunt, I would not stand up for the habs nor support the goalie...i'd say the same thing as with bertuzzi...throw the book at him. |

Nor should it, but it clears up the intent. Fracturing his neck is still fracturing his neck, but doing so unintentionally is better than intentionally.

I heard that on Sportsnet 20 minutes ago. Skating in 4-6 weeks.

No one will argue with you about the retribution bit. As Burke said himself, it would be "ludicrous" to send Bertuzzi out there to accomplish that task; there are guys on the ice for that purpose alone and he is definitely not one of them. As Burke said, the sport encourages intensity and adrenaline; Bert crossed the line and made a mistake and for that he's rightfully punished. My beef is about the length of the punishment, which is brutally inconsistent with all other punishments ever dished out by the NHL. As a hockey player you will not argue that a sucker punch is nearly as bad as a sucker stick swing to the head. I think it's safe to assume that the canucks will be appealing this as soon as the opportunity becomes available. |
