I was in montreal from thursday to sunday... and what a in weekend it was. wow. montreal is *THE* in party city in this country - atleast as far as bars/liveliness in the street goes.
anyway, I saw Ferry @ Aria, which is according to all the Montrealers I spoke to, *the* club for big trance events. And the night was awesome, I usually dont like electro type stuff but I got so into Ferry's set. but then he spun some really really really repetitive with no buildups/breakdowns/anythign interesting for about an hour, and that killed it for me. I never got fully back into the vibe
but anyways great night nontheless. walking outside into that snow felt facked up
about aria itself: nice, but not what it was hyped up to be... It's basement-type grungy feel is good, but I prefer the cleaner type atmosphere, although that underground feel is good sometimes
Sound was nice, except in the bar area
lighting was good, the truss that can lower and raise was really cool, but no laser, no floods (excepts for the white), not enough TV type projection
no dancers :( just guys with their shirts off on the cubes :(
$35 for entrance? I got in for 25 cause a TA hooked me up (thanks man) but thats insane... I guess cause no liquor sales, which is annoying too.
Im not just saying this cause Im a Torontonian, but Aria doesnt holda light to Guv, even though its a very good club
but I'll say this. atleast aria doesnt overpack the place like guv does, I actually had space :)
oh yeah, and club Super Sexe was fun :D |

i may sound rude, but you do exactly sound like the the typical torontian...
The club looks dirty, underground and "grunge" but it was made so in purpose when it all started. Thats the whole point. When you're a regular hardcore clubber and mostly into the scene for the music, you don't need dancers, lasers, nice walls, and fancy stuff that the guv has to offer. At best, they are distratctions and are not welcome.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that Aria never had exotic dancers, lasers, nice projections, decorations, etc... but wouldn't having these every week defeat the purpose of entertainment, having the same thing over and over? What's so cool about it?
If the guv had a sound system half as good as Arias' and a crowd as curteous as Aria's then I would say that you guys have it all. BUT, its not the case.
As for cover, you explained it yourself. Alcohol brings lots of money... and a gino/sharks/gina type of crowd who are there just to be seen.
There's so many other good looking clubs in town that will charge you 10$ cover with alcohol and amazing decorations and everything else you requested... but will they ever host the djs and music that YOU want to hear/see? no. |

last thing... visitors (anyone visiting somewhere else than his hometown) always have this crazy idea that their hometown way of doing things is the best and that when its not done wherever you are going then its necesseraly bad and retarded.
Toronto scene and clubs are verry different from Montreals'. Its really different and each city does it its way.
People should be happy to have such different cities and scenes, diversity is good! |

| Nobody sees the positive side of things anymore or something... You should be happy that you got to see such a great DJ and have lots of fun. Too me thats all its about cause when the DJ is tired and decides to leave its fine with me cause he did his job which was to please the crowd and get everyone pumpep up. Be more open minded and instead of crying because Ferry left a bit earlier think positive and give the next DJ a chance, residents can be 10 times better then international DJ's. Yeah, and when was Kid Vicious' professionalism in question? I don't see anywhere in this thread, where Assassin questioned Kid Vicious' professionalism. We are talking about Ferry Corsten.
Notice that this thread is a review. Reviews are not objective, as they adhere to one's opinions. In the opinion of some, Ferry Corsten did not do his job.
Furthermore, just because we are talking about Ferry Corsten does not mean we are sacraligious. Ferry Corsten is not a God. We are fully entitled to question Ferry's actions if he does not perform to the degree which we expect of him.
So lets here some more "OMG STFU" arguments. |

btw, some reviews about him in Toronto state that he was good for about 2-3 hours and the rest was full of fillers...
what do you guys prefer a short and solid prestation or a long and average set?
(We're talking about trance, don't tell me long AND a good prestation, such a thing doesn't exist!) |
