Why don't you guys let people have their own opinions.

I heard about this review thread in TOTA and I wanted to read it. So someone didn't have a good time, you all don't have to jump on his back and rip his head off.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. And it gives a better picture of the night if it comes from many people and not Aria drones that have the same review every weekend.

despite what everyones opinon on electro is ..... from my standpoint i loved ferry last night. i havent danced that hard in ages, myself and nrg2infinit had an amazing time. And moreover it was the best trance night ottawa has seen probably ever. the nightlife here is prog dominated and we rarely get any good trance djs, so ferry was a blessing. as for the electro, i like electro and techno so i did enjoy that part of the set. and since he broke the set up with the electro and techno tracks i got to hear the build of his set twice which is better than once in most schools of thought. and ending his set with carte blanche...... pure genius....

thats my 2 cents

The club looks dirty, underground and "grunge" but it was made so in purpose when it all started. Thats the whole point. When you're a regular hardcore clubber and mostly into the scene for the music, you don't need dancers, lasers, nice walls, and fancy stuff that the guv has to offer. At best, they are distratctions and are not welcome.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that Aria never had exotic dancers, lasers, nice projections, decorations, etc... but wouldn't having these every week defeat the purpose of entertainment, having the same thing over and over? What's so cool about it?

If the guv had a sound system half as good as Arias' and a crowd as curteous as Aria's then I would say that you guys have it all. BUT, its not the case.

As for cover, you explained it yourself. Alcohol brings lots of money... and a gino/sharks/gina type of crowd who are there just to be seen.

There's so many other good looking clubs in town that will charge you 10$ cover with alcohol and amazing decorations and everything else you requested... but will they ever host the djs and music that YOU want to hear/see? no.

by your logic a club should not have any visuals at all since theyre distracting as you said.
I think visuals are great for the exact reason you were talking about : not to have the same thing all the time. If there is an array of lighting/visuals then certain ones can be used at certain times throughout the night so everything always looks fresh. As opposed to have 30 or 40 mac250's (the light aria has) constantly doing the same effects

In my entire life I have never met a person as into trance music as myself, I have a passion for it unlike any other person I know. I go to a club first and formorst for the music. I went to aria because I wanted to see ferry... if I wanted to go just for some fancy lighting I wouldve gone to one of the many other clubs you mentioned and listened to some ty R&B.

what Im saying is that lighting is not a distraction, but an enhancer. When that huge buildup is gaining energy and the lasers are scanning the crowd and everything is getting crazier in unison, its amazing

as for sound, aria is great because of its rectangular shape. great sound indeed. Guv as well has incredible sound, especially on the stage (not a dance cube), which is my favorite spot since its overlooking the crowd and has more dance space. as well kool haus has incredible sound

as for crowd, guv doesnt have too many ginos, although there are always the few, but I dont mind them since they dont tend to stick to the areas where I like to go. I love guv's crowd. I loved Aria's crowd aswell, although there were a few ******s that were really annoying me. 2 guys and a girl basically all molesting eachother and feeling up eachothers sweaty bodies all over the place, they were all e'd up which is fine with me but go elsewhere. got really annoying, Im sure some of you know who Im talking about

bottom line is this: aria is an excellent club, but guv is better. neither of us will give in to the other so lets just leave it at we enjoy our respective clubs :)

wait a sec here...

visuals are very important... Aria hosts different VJs (visual jockeys) every week. But at the guv, everything including lights is overdone. Its just too much, you get bombarded everywhere you turn. And lasers?? They're not even done with taste... its just a free for all bombarding the crowd... come on man.

About that stage you are describing, I don't know what you are talking about but, the sound was even worse there. The best sound you can hear at the guv is in the middle of square formed by the speakers...

Because my luck suck, this particular weekend, from the three times I've been to the Guv, the sound was the worst and most horrible I've heard in a club of its stature. And just ask some other people that went, they'll tell you the same.

The koolhause on the other hand, had sound quality well well better than at the guv.

I am not trying to convince you, I could care less. Its just that you give way too much importance to some things that frankly should be second to your passion, MUSIC.

As for the lighting, my two favorite effects were;

1) in the Guv when Armin was there. The lazers were scanning the crowd during one of the greatest trance sets I've ever heard live. It was pure sickness!!!

2) in the kool haus when PVD was playing. Can't remember what song it was, but right at the climax of a hugeass buildup (the first beat of that bar); "doooge" goes the bass! Then there was a huge wall of white light comes at you like you are hit with a nuclear bomb. All you can see is a shadow of a person (which was PVD) with his arm in the air.

One thing that I notice is that there are very few clubs/visual jockies that know when to cue the special effects. I guess it's because they don't know when the first beat is? I find it really easy to predict the first beat in a 32 beat bar. Maybe the vjs should study trance so that they can actually cue the effects at the right moment?

maybe they don't give a about trance...

maybe.

ok LOL about everything that has been said recently!
I think some peeps dont knnow the difference between an OPINION and TELLING about something....anyway, the discussion has turned on to another subject here....so lets do it!
i never went to guv or kool haus, so im not gonna compare...but, what the hell is wrong with Aria lightings??? ive always thought it was perfect...not too much, but enough to keep the music's energy...if you want more of that....what can I say, BUY LIGHTSTICKS and make your own lights!

btw, this is mtl forum, ontario ....most of people dont care here, so stfu and tell your boring storys somewhere else
:D  :p  :sadgreen: :thepirate :clown: ;) :( :eyespop: :gsmile: :toothless
