As for the lighting, my two favorite effects were;
1) in the Guv when Armin was there. The lazers were scanning the crowd during one of the greatest trance sets I've ever heard live. It was pure sickness!!!
2) in the kool haus when PVD was playing. Can't remember what song it was, but right at the climax of a hugeass buildup (the first beat of that bar); "doooge" goes the bass! Then there was a huge wall of white light comes at you like you are hit with a nuclear bomb. All you can see is a shadow of a person (which was PVD) with his arm in the air.
One thing that I notice is that there are very few clubs/visual jockies that know when to cue the special effects. I guess it's because they don't know when the first beat is? I find it really easy to predict the first beat in a 32 beat bar. Maybe the vjs should study trance so that they can actually cue the effects at the right moment? |
I've dealt with live lighting before... On computer based setups using apps light LightJockey there is a lag on the DMX. So if you set a certain group of lighting to say, change from green to blue on the 32 beat, there will be a delay before it kicks in. So depending on the system, the number of XLR jumps, and what lights your using, you have to sort of aim ahead of the beat in order to be aligned nicely.
The same is true on hardware lighting boards, but theyre less laggy since theyre dedicated |

maybe. |
I agree.
But it seems to me that those VJs that don't like trance shouldn't be there. I think it's alot similar to people who don't like trance, yet visit a website dedicated to it. |

Greg, be logical, what is the club supposed to do??? have a different vj for every genre of music and subgenre?
who would want to work every a couple months or so???
makes no sense! |

its directed at maybe about 50% of the MTL TAs who like listening and partying with trance music but are open minded enough to listen to other stuff. |
|
|
| alec |
| 50%, I'd say its higher than that! and although when TA was est. back in the day it was probably a 99% trance site, it no longer is! I would say closer to 70% of users like trance, and the rest are into other types |
|
|
| detective you |
| i dont think i'll stop posting cause ii dont listen to trance anymore...TA i think is more than that.... |

| TECHNO ROCKS MY FRIENDS.....im not goin to create a technoaddict site just because some peeps think electro/techno/prog/house sucks....im not here to talk about trance anyways.....but i sure will be there when theres a party with trance music.....usually im hardly able to listen to trance....but i have to say that corsten was pretty good....im open-minded....even if lots of people dont think i am...i dont give a funk......and by the way...im pretty sure its less than 70%:D ...its more musicaddict than tranceaddict... |

as for sound, aria is great because of its rectangular shape. great sound indeed. Guv as well has incredible sound, especially on the stage (not a dance cube), which is my favorite spot since its overlooking the crowd and has more dance space. |
I dunno what your saying about the stage either.... Stage has worst sound in the whole club.
Malek...... on ferry night one of the speaker stacks for the stage wasn't working so its usually better then that... (that night you could hear the monitor from above instead. |
