It's amazing how many American's don't even know where England is, yet they speak English as a first language. I was in Florida at Sizzler's, and started up a chat with some American guy. He asked me where I was from, so obviously i replied England. To my amazement and amusement, the guy replied "Where's that, near Japan or something?". I was like "errr no, its in Europe." I swear to god, these people eat more calories in a day than what they have brain cells. Ok that was a bit harsh. hehe.
TwoPlow
Nell, you're probably right.

There was a Sumerian thread? , can't believe I missed that one.
Lira
Have you ever realised that, the reason why there are so many threads in other languages is because we can say what we truly want better in our native languages than in a language we learned at school?

I think my English is not bad, but I don't even dream of speaking in English the same way I speak in Portuguese. Imagine what it's like for those who speak poor English.

I think every thread that isnt in English is making fun of Americans and how much they hate us.

My friend speaks Mandarin and several other dialects of chinese and korean etc... and as we walked through campus speaking perfect English there would be chinese people talking and laughing and stuff and then hed all of a sudden say something back in perfect mandarin. Theyd all shut the hell up fast.

4 times out of 5 they were making fun of us and he would flip them and tell em to watch their mouths.

Grrr. So I actually do assume someones talking about me if they look at me and say something in another language now. Its happened soo many friggin times hehe.

The presumption of your post is that English is the default language.

That's very normal man,

imagine if u were in a country where nobody could speak english and u were with ur friends..u would ing laugh and say stupid things u wouldn't in ur country as u know nobody understands you and you'd criticize everything....think about it...

p.s I once was in New Jersey and I started talking to an ok girl by the beach and she asked me where i was from and i told her canada..and she was like....uh...haven't we bought that state like 4 years ago? LOL STFU KTHNX ::ignorant bitch!::

Nell
if i had looked even remotely oriental or darker skinned then i would of maybe of htought nothign of it, but im white (see avatar) so there's no way he could of thought England was near Japan. I was going to ask him if he knew what independance day celebrated but that would of just been too cheeky :p

Sometimes it happens, but it's not like that all times. In fact, if you could, you'd probably feel tempted to do this sort of joke in a foreign country every now and then.
