If you read carefully, you'll see that I went much broader than langauge threads.

This thread I created was implying and mocking an exclusiveness which should not be present on any forum. But not only exclusiveness, but a haughtiness and almost insidious manner in which people conduct it by. This kind of behavior is not only partial to language threads, but moreover to knowledge of topics and to innocent misunderstandings which occur habitually

Its making fun of the polish, arabic, greek, roman, and sumerian threads where people with basic skills test their might of saying mundane things against fluent speakers.

I think every thread that isnt in English is making fun of Americans and how much they hate us.

My friend speaks Mandarin and several other dialects of chinese and korean etc... and as we walked through campus speaking perfect English there would be chinese people talking and laughing and stuff and then hed all of a sudden say something back in perfect mandarin. Theyd all shut the hell up fast.

4 times out of 5 they were making fun of us and he would flip them and tell em to watch their mouths.

Grrr. So I actually do assume someones talking about me if they look at me and say something in another language now. Its happened soo many friggin times hehe.

This is not true in the least. You must understand, that those of us who are able to speak another language because we are from that country, or have been raised in the way of the country and language, sometimes would like the security of knowing other people who understand what you are saying. For example, those of us in the Polish thread, we aren't mocking you in the least, but we don't have enough active users that actually live in Poland to create our own forum. Actually we do, but they aren't active enough outside of the COR and our thread to create a forum.

So we have the thread for the purpose of discussing what's going on in our home country, and meetups prior to shows, and meetups for when those of us who cannot live in Poland go to visit. It's also a way of keeping the language with you if you are in daily contact with people who don't speak your language.

Now Phalpax, I understand your frustration, but you need to accept the fact that not all threads that are in another language are made in mockery, nor are we bashing on America. The only time any of us get a bit offended (like I did the other day) is when someone comes in the thread with nothing other than hostility. I.E. When the Arabic girl came in saying "What the is this? What language is this " or something of the sort. That kind of ignorant behavior is not condoned imo.

A few people, including Orbax himself have come into the Polish thread and talked with us. We are not exclusive, if you wish to come into the thread and inquire things but cannot speak our language, we are not going to gang-bang you or anything of the sort. I've even gone far enough to teach some of the members of the board some Polish, and actually, someone came in the thread the other day and asked for the correct spelling of a phrase, and we were more than happy to oblige him with it.

So please, don't make this an attack on all threads that are based in another language. For some of us, it's our only means of communication.

*edit* And this is exactly the American mentality that brings people from other countries to make fun of you. Guess what- we don't always talk about you. America is not the center of our damn universe. You hear another language and immediately think "They're talking " Well guess what, for some of us it's our only means of communication. So shut the up and grow up. I'd like to see you spend one day in a country in Europe. Knowing just "English" or "American" isn't going to get you anywhere.

kthxbye.

Flimsy euphuisms aside, I just don't see the point. By complaining about the negativity and close-mindedness and bickering that occurs on this site, you're simply adding to it. *shrug*

...Or, if you're not complaining, but merely intending to enlighten us, I don't really see the need. I'm sure we're all aware of the absurd misunderstandings and overreactions that go on in this forum. Methinks you just wanted to try your hand at exaggerated academic speech. My suggestion? Throw an "ergo" in there somewhere. More complex vocabulary wouldn't hurt either.

Whoa! :p chill girl. I sincerely doubt he believes that *ANYTIME* someone says something in a different language after looking at him that they're automatically talking about him. The "hehe" indicated, to me anyway, that he was just being facetious.

Anyway when someone looks at you, says something to their friend, and they both turn and look at you, the general assumption is they're talking about you. Doesn't matter what language, you know?

How about a “concurringly”? Me thinks it has much more of “zing” to it than say, “ergo”.

Me also thinks that I stated I was using double-speak when writing this. And it looks like that just complicated things. *sigh* What a world....

This isn't the problem. That kind of behavior, I could see why someone assumes that another is talking bad about them. However, I get these kind of assumptions on a daily basis because my family and I don't speak English around each other. I get dirty looks and often people tell me that if I want to speak in that language then I should just go back to that country.

Try to understand jessicah, how frustrating that is. It's unbelievable, what people will say. A friend I have made here and I were walking back to the car garage after a night in the downtown, and I took the stairwell instead of the elevator because the wait was extreemly long and I did not find any appeal in being squashed among other sweaty club go-ers. As we were walking up the stairs, someone commented "Who's idea was going up the stairs anyway?" My friend immediately and with no hesitation and complete seriousness responded with "Oh, it was Sara, but she's just a dumb Polak anyway, so what can you expect?"

I get those comments day in, and day out. So to hear an American complain that we talk bad about them is just infuriating.

Indeed, but I was in a rush so I picked the point I most disagreed with.

Aye I know :D I stand by it though, I think the importance of a good education is far more recognised in the states. Kids here don't give a , homework and assignments are rarely completed and the education system itself is outdated.

Not to mention that "the right to education" is taken to such an extreme that kids know they can stab their teachers in the knee and still escape with only a 2-day suspension.

Yeah, I read it with the "double-speak" in mind. I just don't think facetiously pretentious speech is really going to make a point. It's lost on too many people here.
