Hey, everyone feel free to rag on me, because Wicked Neo is going to ban me if I sneeze wrong so I can no longer defend myself.

Yeah, I read it with the "double-speak" in mind. I just don't think facetiously pretentious speech is really going to make a point. It's lost on too many people here. |
I can bet that 90% of people completely skipped Phalpax's speech.

*edit* And this is exactly the American mentality that brings people from other countries to make fun of you. Guess what- we don't always talk about you. America is not the center of our damn universe. You hear another language and immediately think "They're talking " Well guess what, for some of us it's our only means of communication. So shut the up and grow up. I'd like to see you spend one day in a country in Europe. Knowing just "English" or "American" isn't going to get you anywhere.
kthxbye. | P.W.N.D.!!!! hehe damn sara decided to release the fury!:p :tongue2 |

You included the Polish thread in your statement "Its making fun of the polish, arabic, greek, roman, and sumerian threads where people with basic skills test their might of saying mundane things against fluent speakers." and this "I think every thread that isnt in English is making fun of Americans and how much they hate us." You know that's just crap because you used to post frequently in the Polish thread. |

:( That sucks. I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I can understand your frustration a little better. I guess it just surprises me that such a large number of Americans are so unfeeling to other languages. Perhaps I'm lucky to have friends who are predominantly bilingual, or at least interested in practicing their rusty high school Spanish or whatnot, so I don't witness any language biases. Religious biases, maybe, and racial biases, of course, but I do live in the American south, which helps explain that.
I think part of the problem might be that native English speakers have grown so accustomed to hearing foreigners SPEAK English, since English seems to be the prevalent 2nd or 3rd language taught in schools in non-English speaking countries, that we've grown spoiled and automatically assume that English is the language of choice. This obviously isn't true, but perhaps that's why some Americans have that mindset.
Here, I have a cheesy innocent Polish joke to make you feel better. Why was the Polish man terrified when he opened his American wife's bathroom drawer?
Because she had POLISH REMOVER in her drawer. :D |

This isn't the problem. That kind of behavior, I could see why someone assumes that another is talking bad about them. However, I get these kind of assumptions on a daily basis because my family and I don't speak English around each other. I get dirty looks and often people tell me that if I want to speak in that language then I should just go back to that country.
Try to understand jessicah, how frustrating that is. It's unbelievable, what people will say. A friend I have made here and I were walking back to the car garage after a night in the downtown, and I took the stairwell instead of the elevator because the wait was extreemly long and I did not find any appeal in being squashed among other sweaty club go-ers. As we were walking up the stairs, someone commented "Who's idea was going up the stairs anyway?" My friend immediately and with no hesitation and complete seriousness responded with "Oh, it was Sara, but she's just a dumb Polak anyway, so what can you expect?"
I get those comments day in, and day out. So to hear an American complain that we talk bad about them is just infuriating. |
Whoa, calm down darlin’. I find it interesting on how supposedly you read my post, but yet take offence to something you drew your own conclusion to. If you did indeed read my post I went far beyond “language threads”. In fact I didn’t mention anything about the polish thread in my post I believe, I was concentrating on the Arabic thread mainly because it had premise of “who knows, and if you don’t off”. As I mentioned with Spad, I was focusing on everything in general really, because I’m tired of being ted on for something I don’t know. I do not understand why people were so sensitive to the fact if you didn’t know something, and then keep your mouth shut. Listen, I know should’ve been more clear cut in my post but my post was designed to leave an open-endedness because I wanted to see how people would react. And, as predictable as the tides, people reacted negatively and you being one of them. So stop playing the victim because you were not targeted to be one nor were you meant to be one. I made an observation but yet people scream bloody murder.
edit: and if you really wanna start the victim game, my house was wrecked before the Iraq war because my grandparents are french and there is a french flag on my house |
