Why is Thorpe a pimp? He beat Phelps fair and square in every singles race, but lost out in a team event by a few hundreths of a second in which Phelps swam. I love the USA, but individual competition is just that; the best of the best. Give the man his credit for his athletic ability.

Er Thorpe doesn't compete in all the individial races that Phelp has been in. So he beat Phelps in the 200m freestyle, thats bout it.
But yes Thorpes a friggin rocket when he swims that last 50m. Like a shark after some poor seal. |

I hate both Phelps and Thorpe :D
Nah, just Phelps a lil', he has this arrogant air around him, can't put my finger on it. Obviously that's a bull reason, I don't even know the guy, but I don't care. He acts kind of weird during interviews, where as Thorpe was cool during his interviews and such. |

If he had said "Im in many events, and Im going to try my very best to win them all"
that would be ok
his (not a quote) "Im going to take home 8 gold" rings of a superiority issue in his attituted Thats what I hate. by saying that, he discredits all the other atletes.

No need to hate. They're both premier swimmers in their respective events, and that's about it. I did like the "upset" look on Thorpe's face when his team lost the gold to the USA in the 4x200 Relay a few days ago. Priceless:D

I think a lot of you guys are confused. When Omegasox called Ian Thorpe a pimp, that's a good thing. It means he's really good and quite talented at what he does. i.e. he's got game. |

how about a 50m race between thorpe, phelps, and that south african guy (forgot his name) <== but he also swims like a rocket ..the guy that brought south africa to the gold in the 4X100 |

Actually, the US media was the one's saying it. He said during an interview (when asked if he thinks he can win 8 gold medals) he said that he only wanted to win one. Because being the best in the worlkd in one event is all that matters.
I could care less, TBH, about the olympics as a whole, except that I hope the US basketball team loses. They don't deserve to win. |
