yes skipper, i agree that suffering is nothing new, but is it something that mankind fuels. coz right now it seems as if thats what we are doing. its not as if we dont know how to end suffering, its coz there are individuals that choose not to end it, and like i said the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, thats the way it has always worked and thats the way it will always work unless there are radical things that will be done. but even if these so called radical things are done, it would result in alot of blood shed coz those that are having it good now wont give up what they have without a fight.

Why are you being so defensive? I'm not attacking you or making fun of your sentiment...

I'm only suggesting that you step back from the TV/newspaper and ask yourself honestly, how can you change what you see everyday? Because above and beyond that, you cannot let yourself translate awareness into misery if you hope to live any kind of enjoyable life.

If you set too many goals you are not happy until you achieve them, and then once you do u must set new goals, and once again not be happy till you get there. Its an endless cycle.. thts how i see it atleast.

just be happy with life and not with materials

So you think life is better lived without any goals?

Goals give people purpose. What if someone's goal was to take some small action that would reduce the amount of suffering/unhappiness for someone?

I'm not sure I should post a reply here as it would mean me bearing my soul.... hmmm....

At the age of 21, I went through a very serious time in my own head which was ignited and fuelled by a number of personal events (saw someone get killed in a fight, had my arm slashed by flying glass, had my car stolen then lost my granddad and believe it or not, there was a lot more) and the world looked increasingly bleak to me.

To cut a long story short, I suffered with this for a long time, the unfairness of the world, the evilness of humans the world over and a million more things that I have no care to type here.

BUT

After a long period of time wallowing and being angry and hurt at the injustices of the world, I made a decision.

I decided to live the best I could, bring as much sunshine to as many people as I can. Laugh lots and give away love and money as much as I can and don't expect it back. Care for every living creature and take responsibility for all my actions.

Sounds puritanical and I can assure you, I am not in any way perfect but I live a beautiful, love and fun-filled life and keep the amount of hurt i cause people to an absolute minimum.

I also don't watch the news very often as I have a tendency to chuck stuff at the telly!!! :)

i hate the news... and once u start watching or reading u get hooked on it.

say there is a newspaper at your work, and u start reading it. every morning that you come in, you wanna read it and see wats different wats new but all the stories are sad or they make you angry because the side that the reporter takes is not your side.

so jus forget about news, once u start reading it its like an addiction for information.

I mean nothing wrong with information, but dont get it from a newspaper... go read a book or an encyclopedia, or something that will intrest you and wont make you angry and upset

no offense, but you are in no position to say people that die dont suffer, NO ONE knows what happens after death.

How can you suffer once you die and dont exist any more ???

even if there is an afterlife why do you think that you would suffer there...

heaven or hell???

i dont think so... afterlife is afterlife (if there is such a thing).

You won't get anything current if you don't read modern forms of news. Which is a pretty ignorant way to live IMO.

Whether you guys like to admit or not, but we humans are acting on a pathway to our own extermination. The destruction of rainforests, pollution of water and air, wars, greed and envy, poverty and destruction, abuse of resources, ignorance, the whole world is run on money .... where's the concern for nature and other people around us? Where's the emphasis on that?

I read a lot about this kind of stuff. I have grown stronger because I have a vision to accomplish, a plan to make the world a better place. I would like to leave a great, positive legacy so that people will look back and say this was a time for great changes ... who cares about economic growth, about some television show ... that won't matter when you will not have food on your table, when you are sick, when you have problems breathing in the pollution.

The rates of cancers, allergies, suicides, murder, theft are not going down. Those same 95% of the world population who are religious, many of which hold dear their 10 commandments and dont follow them at all "though shalt not kill, though shalt not steal thy neighbour's oil", etc. etc.

The cases are endless ... we are all doomed. The best thing that can be done is for you to live a positive life, dont be part of the problem. Try your best not to make the world any worse. Protect environment, help others, spread useful knowledge ... enlighthen yourself! And you'll feel good about yourself, that you're doing something good. People will notice, I see it.

If you have stress, problems ... dont go to the psychiatrist, it won't help. The strength comes from within. The world NEEDS YOU, our positive attitude, actions and ideas.

Stress is self defeating. It is self imposed. It only makes things worse, it degrades your health. Be strong. Be positive. Be knowledgable. Start reading great books about the world or watch informative videos, about nature, science, politics, about ways to make the world better. Act on those ideas. You'll feel good. People will be amazed at you. I tried it, and I'll keep trying.
They will listen - some of them will, though there will always be people who will stare the truth in the eye and ignore it!!!
It makes a lot of difference. It feels nice when people come to you and then say thanks for helping them out. This helped save my life once too ...
