THE RAW DEAL: Kerry's Election Amnesia
"John Kerry will say and do anything for political gain, and his election amnesia on the most important issues facing our country reveals his opportunism. Kerry praised our military's actions at Tora Bora when the fighting was taking place, but when the election is ten days away and Kerry smells a political opportunity, that same battle is the first thing he criticizes. His hypocrisy is no surprise from a candidate who voted against body armor for troops for his own political benefit."
Kerry Now Says The President "Outsourced" The US Military At Tora Bora And Allowed Bin Laden To Escape. KERRY: "And let me just look you in the eye and tell you squarely, when this president had an opportunity to go capture Osama bin Laden or kill him in the mountains of Afghanistan, he did the same thing with that job that he did with your jobs: he outsourced it to Afghan warlords." (Sen. John Kerry, Remarks At A Campaign Event, Pueblo, CO, 10/23/04)
In December 2001, During Fighting At Tora Bora, Kerry Said: "I Think We Have Been Doing This Pretty Effectively And We Should Continue To Do It That Way." CALLER: "Hello. Yes, I would like to ask the panel why they don't use napalm or flamethrowers on those tunnels and caves up there in Afghanistan?" KING: "Senator Kerry?" CALLER: "My golly, I think they could smoke him out." KING: "Senator Kerry?" KERRY: "Well, I think it depends on where you are tactically. They may well be doing that at some point in time. But for the moment, what we are doing, I think, is having its impact and it is the best way to protect our troops and sort of minimalize the proximity, if you will. I think we have been doing this pretty effectively and we should continue to do it that way." (CNN's "Larry King Live," 12/14/01)
Kerry Just 12 Days After Tora Bora Ended: "He Is Elusive. I Think They Are Doing The Maximum Amount Right Now Possible To Try To Track [Osama] Down." KERRY: "The bottom line is that the closest we came [to bin Laden] was in Tora Bora. I do think some people have asked some questions about how that particular component of the mission sort of played out. But the fact is that it is a difficult place. He is elusive. I think they are doing the maximum amount right now possible to try to track [Osama] down. And it is an extraordinarily hard thing for him to hide somewhere. Ret. General Tommy Franks Said America's Afghan Allies Were "Essential" At Tora Bora. "'This is tough, inaccessible country,' I continued. 'The Mujahhedin hid from the Soviets in these mountains for years. That's why our Afghan allies are essential. They know every cave and tunnel.'" (Gen. Tommy Franks, American Soldier, 2004, p. 369)
Ret. General Tommy Franks: "The Senator's Understanding Of Events Doesn't Square With Reality." "According to Mr. Kerry, we ''outsourced'' the job to Afghan warlords. As commander of the allied forces in the Middle East, I was responsible for the operation at Tora Bora, and I can tell you that the senator's understanding of events doesn't square with reality." According To FactCheck.Org, Kerry "Overstated The Case" On Osama Bin Laden's Alleged Escape At Tora Bora. "Actually, it's never been clear whether bin Laden actually was at Tora Bora. It is true that military leaders strongly suspected bin Laden was there, and it is also true that the Pentagon relied heavily on Afghan forces to take on much of the fighting at Tora Bora in an effort to reduce US casualties. But Kerry overstates the case by stating flatly that 'we had him surrounded.'" |

Deux réalités, un pays

New York - Étalée en lettres rouges à la une de La Presse, la manchette ne pouvait être plus claire: " NON À BUSH ". Elle représentait le consensus de 10 pays, dégagé au terme d'un sondage sans précédent.
N'empêche: George W. Bush pourrait bien être réélu, comme si l'opinion du monde comptait pour rien. À neuf jours du scrutin du 2 novembre, plusieurs sondages nationaux lui donnent une légère avance sur John Kerry.
Il y a dans ce soutien à Bush un mystère. Les partisans du président sont-ils aveugles? Ne voient-ils pas la réalité? C'est peut-être leur problème.
Pas moins de 57 % des supporteurs de Bush croient que la plupart des nations souhaitent la réélection du président sortant. C'est l'un des résultats stupéfiants d'un sondage réalisé par l'Université du Maryland publié vendredi.
Un autre: 75 % des partisans de Bush croient que l'Irak soutenait activement le réseau terroriste Al-Qaeda, responsable des attentats du 11 septembre de 2001. Encore pire: 72 % croient que l'Irak avait des armes de destruction massive ou un programme pour en produire.
Tout cela est contredit par les faits. La grande majorité des nations souhaitent la victoire de John Kerry. Il n'y avait aucun lien entre le régime de Saddam Hussein et l'organisation d'Oussama ben Laden- même la CIA l'admet. Et il n'y avait aucune arme de destruction massive en Irak, tout juste un soupçon ténu sur la capacité de Saddam d'en produire.
Mais dans quelle réalité George W. Bush et ses partisans vivent-ils? Vendredi, dans un nouveau spot publicitaire, les démocrates ont comparé le président à une autruche qui, " la tête dans le sable ", est incapable de voir et de résoudre les problèmes auxquels font face les États-Unis.
La métaphore animalière des démocrates suivait celle des républicains. Plus tôt dans la journée de vendredi, ceux-ci avaient en effet diffusé leur propre pub, intitulée Wolves (" Les Loups "), où l'on voit une meute de loups associée au terrorisme.
Le message, à peine subliminal: si vous votez pour Kerry, les loups terroristes vous attaqueront.
