THE FORK IN THE ROAD OF LIFESTYLE :
i read every post (omg .. i did.. how bored am i???) in this thread, and i feel sorry for this guy. every post is relating to him going back to school, or calling him an idiot. so i am going to do the opposite of that. i am not going to tell you that quitting school is good, or force you to go back. i am going to tell you that you are at the fork on the road of life. many people reach this fork in their early 20's, but you sir are one of the special people that have reached this fork early.
one way, is a life full of sunshine, deers, rabbits, and the great plains, while the other way is full of dark trees, winds, and wild animals. either way is not going to lead you to death, yet you need to make the decision for yourself which way you think is suitable for you. you may hate to live blissfully, and like to take the bumpy road. or you may be afraid of the wild nature, and prefer the pastures.
living in the pastures is the easy life. you may need to work the hard life now and then, but that will get you into a higher status than you are currently. you will have the simple luxuries of cars, vacations, and the laid back life. no one would be on your back (well depending on your career) and you will have a home with a wife, 2.3 kids, and that little picket fence in your front yard.
there are those occurences in life where one would not succeed in the pastures, either because of bad luck, or maybe it was that person's fault for not following the blueprint that was set for him. in order to live in the simple life, one would need to follow the blueprint set for him. no exceptions. no complaints. no shortcuts.
however, going through the dark woods is not scary, but you will need to tough it out with nature to get what you want. you can survive with the "bare minimum", but you always will have that need to go furthur than the average life. you can achieve that lifestyle, but that will have you working twice as harder than you have ever thought before. you will need to grut it out and do labor work. you will be treated like a piece of meat, and if you are not needed by the "bigger administration" honchos, they throw you into the streets. now the question is, do you think you have the adversity to overcome that, and move on ??
one can succeed in the dark woods, but he would need to work twice as hard as if one worked in the eternal sunshine. then again, there are the cheaters in the world that take the shortcuts. i am not going into that, because that's another long speel about morality and integrity issues.
so d00d .. you are at that path.. so turning back.. i am not going to make the decision for you. no one is making the decision for you. not your parents, your relatives, your friends... neither path is bad or leads to death, but the lifestyle is going to be different. it all depends on what you want... |

I'd say both paths lead to death, but maybe you're a religious person? :p |

First of all, Id like to argue that both paths lead to death :D
Secondly, I agree that if he works hard he has a chance to succeed, even without his diploma. But there is more to it than ingenuity and dilligence. To achieve anything in our world, you need time and resources. If youre working to support yourself (This will be necessary) and cant put money aside to save, it will prove difficult to attain the resources you need to further yourself. Do you think you can just walk up to a company, present them with an idea, and theyll buy it from you? Chances are, theyll tell you theyve developed something similar, then start working on it a few days later (if its even a good idea at all).
If youve got resources and money, everything is great, but if like most people, you have to work for a living then bettering your attractiveness to potential employers is a great way to start. |

true.. everyone needs to work. but it depends on if you want the "special reward" at the end when you are done with your work .. does he want a special reward? some people don't like special rewards, .. some people prefer to live in the middle , without making the effort to push themselves the extra notch in their body..
and p.s. .. not a religious post from me.. hahahaha .. trying the best not to be so darn negative against the dude. the guy seems to be going through a lot in his mind, and he needs someone to wake him up and shake him to bring him back to reality, |

Or, you could suck it up and deal and finish high school, go to college, and then get paid $25 an hour at a job to follow rules.
Get a clue, school isnt anybody's thing. Its a means to an end.
If you are too lazy to personally get motivated to go to school, why don't you go see a psychologist and fake a case of ADD. Or hell, you might actually have it. You might find school more tolerable on stimulants. |
+1
this what I was really thinking... but I would probably be much nicer about it.
hurrah for vulgarity! |

Dont you have to think about your future? Beyond a special reward, do you want to be working when youre 60? Will you even be able to? Sure, itd be nice to count on Social Security, but I think we can all agree that the program is going down in flames as we speak. Youve got to plan for your future without sacrificing your indivduality. And lets be honest, this is high school we're talking about. Yes, they impose ridiculous sanctions, but rules are a part of life. Without them wed have anarchy and, while im not saying either is better than the other, most people in our society value some kind of order. Thus, if you want to live in any society, youre going to have to learn to follow the rules. If you dont have the self-discpline to restrain yourself in school, why would any employer hire you? |

you are speaking like a true civilian in the pastures.. i have read posts that are forest dwellers in the windy dark posts.. i myself am a citizen of the pastures (graduated from college.. working for a masters) .. but i am trying to provide a life lesson for the guy (if he is going to read his thread he created) and see that no one is forcing him into something he does not want to do .. but he will need to make a decision to stay or go .. no one is going to tell him what to do .. look at me .. i am talking like a tired parent after hearing my kid dropped out of high school.. hahahha .. but he needs to make the decision.. life after high school is not death, if you consider working in the middle very very bad .. but i will say that the fall from middle to the deep low is a lot closer than if you were living in the pastures... |

Very well. Now that youve put it this way, i have to agree with what youre saying. I dont think any of us were trying to force him back into school, but simply impart on him that a high school degree (at least) makes the going alot easier. However, well done by you to encourage him to, despite all the advice we give him, make his own choice based on his preceived benefits vs. risks.
I dont think living without a high school degree is in the middle though. In my personal ranking system, id have to place it in the lower third, more or less. Just an opinion though... |

imo, i believe we still live in the old european 13th century family lifestyle status life .. from aristocrats to peasants .. the five stages (i forgot all the names of the stages .. who is taking world civilization now?? he/she would know) .. but i see a guy with no high school degree would be inbetween the 2nd and 3rd stage, depending on how hard one tries. a slacker would be in the 2nd, and a hard worker would be in the 3rd stage.

dude .. you don't want to put it in those terms .. instead of "hole that a lack of education puts you in", you could say "the instability of the middle life that leads you to constant wondering"... |
