there were a lot of girls like that last night and in general.(y'know the hot chick and no far behind is her bf or male chaperone). i figure if you're a chick and surrounded by booze, adrenaline, testosterone, amphetamines and other forms of sketchiness, you wouldn't want to go to one of these things with only other girls. what is it, like some kind of taboo to pick up at these things? i never understood that. if i'm sober and she's ed up on e, then i see the problem. but if we're both sober or we're both ed up, then it should be fair game. flame suit on. |

Anyhow, back to a proper review.
Showed up with two buddies of mine round 9:45. Literally took us 5 minutes to get in although we had to walk up all those stairs in the blizzard up to the football stadium. But it was a contrast to lineups anywhere else, where it would have normally taken forever and we would have all been buried by the snow.
Anyways got in, and at first I was a bit concerned that it had been undersold cuz the corners of the rink were pretty sparse. But I figure it was still early and when you went to sit in the stands, you realized that the main concentration of people was in the middle, between the two hanging cubes (which were sick by the way).
The setup was pimp. Those cubes hanging were crazy, there were massive strobe lights aligned all along the front (which they went a bit too crazy with) and the DJ booth was elevated enough that you could see from anywhere! The added video screens were a nice touch too! overall pretty sick!
The sound was pretty crap from the stands, but once on the floor, i couldn't complain! Loud and a lot of bass. I'd say comparable to bell center, but like people have mentioned, nothing like Aria. The reverbarating bass was definitely a factor since it was in an arena.
The crowd was pretty diverse. At first I was thinking, it's gonna be club extremes types, gino clubber types that just stand around and don't dance. "YO BRO, when they gonna play Love Comes Again, minkia!" This was due to the fact it was a 9pm-3am show. But after seeing a couple of them on the way in, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of NON-ginos. Although you wouldn't see most of these people in an afterhours, they still knew how to party and the place was jumping with energy, even early on. Lots of chicks too! lots! was a welcome change from the sausage fest marathons at aria on most nights..:rolleyes:
Marco G had a pretty good warmup set, I wasn't really paying attention :o ....was concentrating more on the bar :D and getting enough alcohol in before tiesto. Mission complete! ;) Though he obviously played a much trance-ier set than i've heard him play at aria, which was fine.
Tiesto came on and everyone went nuts! As had been mentioned, it took him a while to get started, but I'd say around 12:30 he really hit his stride and everyone was jumping going crazy. The track that stood out for me was
Dave Gahan-Dirty Sticky Floor (whatever remix)
fairly old song, but I still can't get it out of my head from last night.
ANyways blah blah blah, good stuff etc etc. The last part of the set FLEW by, and next thing I knew it was all over. I was pretty disappointed how it ended. It was as if he just stopped, bang, that's it. No special last song where you knew "this is the last one," like at TIC2 when he played Delerium-Silence, and everyone knew he couldn't top that. No last track either, even though everyone was chanting for an encore. So on that note a bit disappointing but what can you do, it WAS past 3am.
Getting the car out from the snow was an adventure :D :D :D. Drunk as a monkey trying to push my friend's car was not a pleasant experience! Luckily some random people from the street gave us a hand and we got out of there 10 minutes later. POURRI!
Overall good times! As much as people think tiesto is cheese and a sellout etc, he still throws good parties. The fact that 5 of my friends who have NEVER listened to EDM in their lives and wanted to come to see Tiesto says a lot. I also loved the fact you could drink DURING the show. I'm so used to drinking from 2am-3am, going to Aria and that's it. Which is fine, but normal drinking hours is definitely preferable.
no TA sightings unfortunately. THough i didn't really know what i was looking for to begin with :p . I had a black t-shirt, with "Ibiza 04" written in white across the front, in the ODD chance that someone would remember that.
anyways, this is WAYYYYY too long. if you've gotten this far, i commend you. |

one of the girls I liked kept looking back at me like she knew me lol and her bf next to her lol I was sober the whole night only... two shots of vodka straight... the women I bought it from looked at me like u want ice and I was no... she was like uhh... ok (way off topic) some of the girls in the bikini tops omg!
I totally need a russian or french-canadian or german gf! or any eastern european gf that likes trance!
I remember this chick throwing her tank top to tiesto and he had to dodge it lol |

it was as if she wasn't DANCING, rather she was PERFORMING. She wouldn't have been out of place at Chez Paree or Wanda's. |

I dunno I seemed to notice groups of girls dancing in packs of 3 or 4. And 15 guys dancing around them trying to, pardon the pun, penetrate their circle. It's like they put up a buffer zone to make sure you don't get too close :whip:
But I'm all for picking up at something like this. Not that I go out of my way to do it but like you said, it is fair game. It just differs from a typical club atmosphere, where guys are going SOLELY to pick up, grope, grind with chicks. There's a line there that shouldn't be crossed. |

It was without a doubt an incredible night. The crowd went INSANE when Tiesto played Traffic.
I'm surprised no one mentioned the HUGE, "Tiesto is the King" banner.
The girls were nice but *sigh* I came with my girlfiend. :D
Overall, an INCREDIBLE night! I'd pay a hundred dollars to see him. |
