1989-1994 ish he played mostly house with trance tunes every once in a while
1995-2000 ish he played a lot of great progressive house and trance
2001-2003 ish he played a lot of more minimal progressive house stuff
2003-Now he is in a league of his own playing a combination of electro, progressive house, breaks, etc...really doing a fantastic job lately...i r pwned
his mix cds like someone said are always different...
Northern Exposure series was mostly progressive house stuff, early ones also had a lot of more ambient tunes.
His GU cds always had a lot of progressive house and trance on them
Airdrawndagger i dunno even what to classify it other then good hehehe
Involver was more of his new style with focus on breaks and electro type tracks
all of it good...Sasha is one of the few dj's that still remains current and is able to adjust to the changing times while still having his own style |

Airdrawndagger - Ambient Breaks/Ambient Trance/Progressive Trance etc..haven't heard it in a while. Don't know why people always give credit to Sasha for ADD, he only produced two tracks by himself. The rest were co-produced by actual producers who know what they're doing.
One thing is for certain: No matter what year you go to his music will be boring. |

I have to agree Radagast, he is quite boring. He's the gateway to the more underground sound. First you listen to Armin, then Markus, then Holden, then Sasha, then some other repetative 4/4 BS that goes nowhere.
:p |

| see...i thought he got pretty boring in 2001-2002 ish...but i ask you if you've heard a recent set of his? i think he's really got a great sound today... |

Nevermind, I'm not walking to a landmine that isn't even covered up properly. |

I thouth so too by the orgasms of everyone in the thread about his set a The Arena eight days ago. So I listened to it. The first five minutes: Okay, slow, maybe just the intro. First ten minutes: Track two and still nothing. First twenty minutes: Now I remember why I don't listen to Sasha! |

meh, you people and your damn labelings...
but what the hell:
James Holden is NOT.... i repeat, NOT prog. you can coin "Horizons" as prog, but that's one of the few. not his productions, and his sets have maybe 2-4 prog tracks in them. he's into stuff like Infusion and Chable, but that's it. believe it or not, Holden is TECHNO, minimal and electro. his favorite DJs are Richie Hawtin, Josh Wink and Petter (who is a whole other story, and no, he is NOT PROG either). i was at a minimal techno/click/glitch night at a club last night, and the DJ dropped The Sky Was Pink (Holden Rmx). not prog.
James Zabiela... not much prog either. sure, he spins it, but you can't generalize him as it. he spins a lot of breaks, to begin with, electro, minimal, funky stuff, and techno. labeling him as prog would only cover about 30% of what he does.
finally... Sasha. Sasha, you can label him as prog i guess. but he also, and as of lately specially, is dropping electro, tech house, a lot of breaks (as always), and even a smidge of minimal now and then.
it's very hard to label what a DJ spins. in the end, maybe you can classify a single track, and even then, it can get a bit tricky. |

I don't think so.

What's your point?

And 2 Many DJ's dropped Guns & Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine at I Love Techno 2003.
Ricardo Villalobos is minamal/glitch techno. Sutekh is minimal/glitch techno. James Holden and James Zabiela are not.
Hey guy below me, THERE IS NO UMEK ON BALANCE 005. |
|

Holden is his own sound. Look at Balance 005. It had everything from Umek to FortDax, which is obviously techno and ambient. His productions are his own style, and his sets/mixes are a mix of anything.
Anyways, debating over genres is dumb. An artist shouldn't be labeled under a specific genre, as each is unique, even McProg. I've spun everything from tech-house to drone ambient. |

and what would you classify him as?
well, that since these are influences to him, and i see him playing tracks of each in a set right after the interview where he said that, i don't know... let's see... maybe it's that if he's playing techno tracks, he is a dj that plays techno?

did i ever say holden was glitch? did i ever even classify zabiela or holden as minimal? i just said they spin some of it. ie. Circuit Breaker by Smash TV aka Mindlab in ALiVE.

yes there is. Umek is Zeta Reticula, which has, 2 tracks if memory serves, in Balance 005. |
