Silverman Helps

I was just watching this segment on CityTv.
Man, people let themselves be taken advantage of all the time. This poor guy got a bill for the 407 for a year straight for 21 cents each time. Each time he just thought it would be the last.
It took Silverman to take care of that problem for him. What the hell? Like he can't talk to the right people himself. I do understand that sometimes people are just cons and Silverman does good work, but this was ridiculous.
I should do a show, StereoPrincess Helps. |

I saw that too. If that were me, you can bet the 407 would have heard about this problem a year ago and put a stop to it.
I couldn't help but laugh at how funny it was though.... :tongue2 |

I thought that it was really stupid... Why does stuff like that make the 6 o'clock news. I also thought it's funny that snow is on the news too. Haven't most of these people lived in Canada for a winter before? :D |

OK........here's where I'm gonna crush your belief..."What the hell? Like he can't talk to the right people himself."
I lived in a place for over 11yrs......ya that's a long time. Neways....All of a sudden I start gettin 407 bills for some guy (??). Hell I lived there b4 the 407 even existed. I opened the mail and sent 6 bills back with a letter about how stupid they are. then I called 9 other time, meanwhile...this guys bill was growing $500+ now. Each time I talked to a new manager or supervisor. Then I sent them a letter (registered mail)and all the next 15 opened bills (with the name and address all crossed out) and listing all the dates, times and names of all the 407 managers and supervisors that I spoke to. Neways...more years go by and now the bill is astranomical for whoever this guy is. Poor sod.
But the short of this is that 407 is still billing this guy, even after I've moved.
Then 407 cries to our govt. b/c ppl aren't paying their bills....well guess what efin Tory supporters.....when efin Harris sold us out to this American company...they f^cked Canadians. Now 407 demands restitution from our govt. for their losses....and I'll bet half the ppl billed don't even exist or have to pay a huge interest for a 407 mistake. How ethical is this....what's wrong with this picture.
The kicker is....I'll bet once they find this guy...they'll make him pay...regardless that they sent it to the wrong address. Is that fair???? Was it fair for me to be bombarded with this mail, even after I complained?
I know I shudn't care..........but dammit I do. I wudn't want to get stuck with a bill b/c of their mistakes.
So StereoPrincess....tho I don't need the help now, do you think I didn't do enuf to fix this prob? |

Now hang on there just a second before getting into another round of America/Corporation bashing.
407/ETR sends bills to the registered address of whomever owns the license plate that they took a picture of on camera.
It's the responsibility of the LICENSEE to update their registration on their driver's license when they move. In fact, I think it's a provincial offence not to do it.
Obviously they should stop sending you bills for someone else once you've complained, but I don't see how it's a "kicker" that they'll make him pay once they find him, because it's HIS FAULT that he wasn't receiving the mail. He didn't update his registration!
As for the government providing restitution, it's the government that handles all the licensing! Who else is supposed to provide restitution? The government SHOULD pay for invalid licenses on the 407 - the only thing that hasn't been addressed is that they should ALSO be suspending the license of whomever did not update their address, and if they (the gov't) have had to pay restitution, slap a fine on that individual and make him pay it (and update their address) before their license can be reinstated. |

Firstly I lived there b4 407 came into force.
I took over the place and know the previous owners that were there for 10 yrs. The name and address was incorrect. No such a person ever existed there.
Now I don't think that some guy is going to get a licence without other ID to verify the name and address.
So the only assumption to make is that this was a 407 mistake.
Let's not forget that I sent letters via regular and registered mail. and that I called more than several times.
In each case, 407 was aware of their mistake and ignored it.
how can u sit there and say that poor sod is responsible for the interest incurred when 407 ignored my information and continued billing him at the wrong address.
Pu pleaze...........what kind of Canadian are you. |

Actually isn't the 407 owned by a Spanish conglomorate???...I also think this was another Harris up by selling it & that the present government should NOT go after people who haven't payed their tolls by not re-newing their validation stickers...ETR 407 is cleary gouging everyone who uses that highway with their outrages toll charges (the highest in North America) |

It's a ing toll highway you idiot, they can charge whatever the hell they want. I can't believe you honestly think that people who don't pay their bills should get off scot-free. If you don't want to pay then DON'T ING DRIVE ON IT!
Just because you're used to driving on free roads does not mean that private enterprises who legally own those roads have to let you use them for free. Go to New York - half the roads there are toll roads, it's ridiculous.
I don't consider it a Harris "-up", I consider it just one of many smart moves made by his government. The 407 is great! Whenever I'm trying to get somewhere up north, that's WAY better than the 401 or the city roads.
P.S. please provide EVIDENCE of this "highest in North America" claim, because that is utter bull. The rates are actually quite low, they pale in comparison to some American highways. |

OK....this has now become a rant...so excuse my french
Toronto is not New York or f^ckin USA. I moved here from New York to get away from the bs. The efin Harris goes off and pulls this e.
Do you see any other tolls in this city?
Do we need this e in this city?
NO!
Stop trying to convert us into another USA state.
This is Canada.
And IMO no company should be allowed to charge whatever they want without having some safeguard to control pricing for roads which were our to begin with.
If you want the free enterprise then, get the f^ck outta my country and go over there and pay for your mothaf^ckin med care instead of leeching off us. |

First of all
CHILL THE OUT...I haven't been this disrespectful to you have I??? Is this how you normally treat people as well?...so relax...
Second...where did I say that people should NOT pay for using the tolls...this isn't the first time that YOU Diginut have stated things that are NOT true from I wrote...I said the goverment should not go after the ones using the tolls & not paying BY NOT renewing their stickers.Especially when the present gov. was seeking to have the tolls reduced.
Third...I can't believe that you think Harris wasn't responsible for the 407 fiasco with regards to the toll charges...If the 407 was still owned by the government then it would be a great source of revenue even if the toll charges we're HALF of what they are now
Forth...the 407 ETR is the highest toll PER KILOMETER in North America...Everytime the ETR is blasted on the news about their ever increasing toll charges, its the first fact that is plastered on the tv screen...
If you want to read more about your pal Harris then you can check out the link but you'll prolly won't believe whats there anyway:rolleyes:
