I didn't answer your question about how Guvernment employees get hired at other places because the question makes no sense. What exactly is the implication here, that the Guvernment writes employee reports and sends them to all the other clubs in the city so that bad employees will never get hired anywhere else? It is precisely BECAUSE the Guvernment doesn't give a about what its employees do that they are ABLE to get hired elsewhere! If these other clubs actually knew what a bunch of pigs and tarts these people were, their applications would be torn up and used as confetti!
As a matter of fact it's YOU that's making this a "Guvernment vs Boa" thing, not me. I used Boa as an example of clubs that don't tolerate bull, but that was merely an example.

So you still haven't answered my question asking how the heck did ex GUV employees get hired to do high ranking positions at other clubs? Why are there so many head doorman around the city who worked at THE GUV incuding Earle@INSIDE,Kevin@NYC,Gus@VIVA,John T@REPUBLIK,Tan Tan@EASY AND THE FIFTH,Blake@THERAPY who is now a manager ect. ect? Why has you favourite club BOA hired ex GUV security as well? Was Hani(Rony) from BOA not involved with THE GUVERNMENT too at one point? How did Zark and Ralph from ZRF and PROJECT ORANGE become top Toronto promoters if current and ex GUV people were so horrible? How are ex GUV bartenders getting hired all over the place?
I wasn't the one who was trying to turn this into some GUV VS BOA thing and it was actually Floorwhore from BOA who highlighted the words "(GUV) puts their customers first" and then put up :wtf: (WTF sign) in response and Xavier Moriarty also wanted to dispute my statement about GUV actually making changes for the people after I stated that both Charles from THE GUVERNMENT and Rony (Hani) from BOA were both hands on owners and that this was the way that things should be which was a complement to the way that BOTH THE GUVERNMENT and BOA were being runned so I can't see any way that I was trying to start up some sort of GUV VS BOA thing when I was complimenting both clubs.
Diginut you were the one who mentioned the word BOA first by trying to say that BOA would be one of the clubs who would help kill of THE GUVERNMENT so you were obviously trying to make it into A BUNCH OF TORONTO CLUBS IN TORONTO VS THE GUVERNMENT and then tried to make it into a BOA VS THE GUVERNMENT things shortly after. |

Where in his analogy is Diginut wrong?
The Guv has gone with a businesss plan that caters to a variety of people, with it's multiple siderooms and lounges like The Drink and The Orange Room. These other rooms play different music than edm, allowing the Guv to offer everything you find on Richmond St on a Friday or Saturday night.
I've always compared the Guv to the Joker, or Whiskey Saigon.. They have 3 floors, 3 genres, a mashing of crowds, same principle is in use @ the Guv. Maximum marketablility.
When you have that kind of draw, and such a huge chunk of the market, customer service is something that is going to lack bigtime. Perhaps it's intentional, perhaps it's just because you can't handle large volumes of people in this industry in a mostly positive manner with a staff situation such as that.
You are entitled to like the places you go, and people who haven't enjoyed themselves there are equally entitled to dislike the places they have negative experiences at. |
THE DRINK doesn't play edm aka Electronic Dance Music? What the hell would you call house then? Are DJ's Manzone and Strong playing country or hp hop tunes all night long?
Don't compare THE GUVERNMENT to JOKER and WHISKEY SAIGON (now called JOE Nightclub by the way) because there is no comparision. JOKER and JOE don't play 3 different genres on 3 different floors and play 2 different genres at very most but oh well I guess you haven't been downtown recently seeing how you think that WHISKEY SAIGON is still around and all:tongue3
JOKER and JOE aren't nearly as successful as THE GUVERNMENT so this maximum marketability thing you speak about isn't so simple to pull off now is it? GUV compared to JOKER and W.S(JOE) is is an invalid comparision and neither plays much house or trance unless you want to count the Z103.5 Fridays@JOKER on Fridays as a house or trance night when half the stuff played is hip hop, raggae or R&B:tongue3
There aren't any other clubs in Toronto where you have so many clubs in one complex and trying to compare THE GUVERNMENT to JOKER or W.S(JOE) is a weak comparision seeing how GUV has 3 times the rooms (small clubs) as both of those clubs and it's hard to compare THE GUVERNMENT to any other club because THE GUVERNMENT is so unique. |

Wouldn't the fact that we've been to these numerous other clubs which we claim have better staff than the Guvernment imply that we go outside fairly often?
On the other hand I don't think I've seen you out too often... you only go out when Tiesto or Armin are in town.
Hmm... hey... a thought occurs... could it be that *gasp* the people who defend the Guvernment most adamantly haven't really been to many events and don't really know much about the scene?? |
|
|
| Jayx1 |
so now you assume that certain people dont know much about the scene or about music? Thats a good one...
Dude listen... politics are fun only when it's involving bashing the liberal party.
Club politics are whack. That goes for anyone who spews them btw. All clubs in Toronto serve their purpose and if they dont they close down. Simple as that. If you dont like guv, boa, crocodile rock or whatever...
DON'T GO!!!
and STFU! |

If the Guv changed 3 things I would go MORE often:
1) Improve the "attitudes" of the staff, either security or otherwise. If they have to clean house so be it.
2) STOP overcrowding the club
3) Better ventilation |

Business owners can serve their customers and keep an eye on the bottom line at the same time. It's not that difficult.
"Sketchiness" in the context of the Guv does not refer to people simply doing drugs. This discussion's been had several times on the forum, and the word in this connotation refers to a whole load of drug-induced bad behaviour, mostly by G monkeys and coke heads and people doing other weird like PCP or Dartura, starting fights or trying to rape girls on the dance floor. Staff at other clubs try not to let THOSE drugs into the club (have a good look at one of Boa's many "Zero tolerance for GHB" signs), and if they do get in and the starts to hit the fan, those staff are generally able to diffuse the situation rather than adding to it like the Guv employees do.
I'm not even going to answer the rest of that post, I'm only going to ask you one question Max: Why the can't you grow the balls to admit that you work for the Guvernment? I remember last summer we had a Boa promoter, PartyHarlequin, on the boards and everyone was giving him even though he ADMITTED straight up that he promoted for them. You on the other hand keep ing dodging the question or even lying outright - well you, it's time to stop being a ing and own up to the you've stirred on here.
If your next post isn't a confession then it's onto ignore you go. Your rants aren't welcome here until you tell us who the hell you are. |
ok ppl, this conversation is going nowhere, guvernment is one of the most successful clubs that has been open for over 9 years, it has one of the best booking agent who books dj’s for film, lush, system, cz, and others. the owner of the guv is very intelligent, he been able to keep such a big club in one peace, and at the same time mange other business. If Charles didn't care about guv., he wouldn't invest into renovation, guv changes its look every month, if not every event. There are hardly any fights that break out, and if there were a few of them that happened before, things were resolved immidiatly. as for the drugz, every club has ppl smuggling it, they can put it in their ass, in between their braw, in between their snatch etc. This happens everywhere, so don't be bashing the guv. and acting as if other clubs are perfect, the other night I was @ BOA and I saw two people having sexual intercourse right on the main stage. I never saw anyone body trying 2 rape anybody on the dance floor of the Guvernment. Furthermore I’d like 2 states that it’s really stupid for boa promoters to bash other clubs, simply b/c they don't have any other strategies attracting customers to their venue, this is very immature and unethical. Another thing I would like to mansion is that if Guv. wasn’t around Toronto’s dance scene would not be the same. Guv. Attracts a lot of tourists to come and visit one of the biggest N.A's night clubs. Guvernment is know world wide for its name, ppl. like John Digweed, Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Marco V, Sander Kleinenberg, JXL, Infected Mushrooms and more played @ Guv. on several occasions, if Guv. had such a bad reputation, the booking agents for those mansion above would not even bother brining the djs in to the venue. Guv. keeps the 4 simple marketing p's intact under their belt and that what makes it a great place. Price, product, promotion and place, if Guv didn't follow the simple rules of marketing, it would not be where it is today. lots of club owners, managers and promoters use Guv. as their model to create a perfect utopian club. Guv. is the home for the best local and international dj's. it was, is and will be one of the best clubs know in history. Another thing that I would like to mansion is that Guv. Management is very open minded if they weren’t, then they wouldn’t host diff. kind of theme nights through out the week. Guv is not only know for the dance scene, but its know to be the home for Toronto’s fashion and movie industry. |

This arguement seriously needs to stop. Everyone knows that the Guv is far from perfect, but i think it's safe to say that no club can claim to make everyone happy. The comparisions that people have made are bound to irk regulars -- and that's how these petty arguments are started, and then fueled by people who have vested interests in slagging off another club.
Just give it up already - the arguments are getting tired, and people who have experienced nights at these clubs have a pretty good idea of what the strong and weak points are. People have lost all objectivity and are now resorting to personal attacks which takes away from the credibility of your posts.
DigiNut : While i agree that The Guv should cap the number of people they herd in and out of that place, i don't think a comment like the Guv is sketchier is really far. Last time i was at Boa i saw just as many sketchy people. They weren't asian, and they weren't 40 year old and sitting in puddles getting light shows, but they were just as cracked out. Boa, Guv and CZ rank pretty much the same in terms of how many G monkeys, Circuit boys and Shirtless monkeys roam around during the peak time (It's a proportionate thing afterall).
MaxPain : Admit it dude, you either were, or are a bouncer at the Guv -- that's how you 'know' so much about the industry, and don't boast about it like it's a big thing -- just like your claim of having a full head of hair, most people laugh at people like you when you big up something as trivial as knowing the inside scoop on clubbing. Figure out a cure for cancer and maybe someone might be impressed. Knowing a few names of bouncers and where they were employed and whatnot just means you're a juicehead with a full head of hair who wasn't smart nuff to get a real job. ;) :tongue2 :toocool: :tongue3
Anyway, it's too late to ask people to get along -- so maybe we should listen to the TOTA's self appointed Prime Minister (and chief whinner :tongue2 ) jayx1 and just STFU about places that you don't intend to ever go back to.
The Guv isn't going anywhere -- they are the biggest club in TO, and while they are able to attract the biggest talent in the world and keep a resident like Mark O -- they will always draw a crowd.
I don't think Boa ever intended to compete directly with The Guv because from what i've seen they are targetting a different type of crowd (though naturally there will always be a little crossover). |

First off, I'm entitled to say whatever the hell I want. The "if you don't like it, don't go" argument is pretty useless against someone who doesn't go. It's obvious that I'm not being a hypocrite, so what are you trying to say exactly?
I didn't start this bull, Max did. Have you ever seen me randomly pipe up about the Guvernment in an unrelated discussion?

I disagree with you. Obviously you've made your own observations and that's fine, but I've been to both Boa and the Guvernment *many* times and I think it's a lot worse at the Guvernment. Sure there are s everywhere but there are also normal people and I don't see very many normal people at the Guvernment - just sketch artists, barbies and juicers, and tourists.
And you guys have to stop spinning this like a comparison between Boa and the Guvernment. What about System? You were there last night Sid... ok, so there were 2 or 3 puddles involving 2 or 3 people each, but did you see any other blatant sketchiness? How does that compare to the Guvernment on a typical night? |
