Unfortuantely, many courts have raised the issue that separate but equal is not "equal". There is still a form of segregation going on. Would it be acceptable in society's view for the Toronto School Board to establish separate schools for white and black children only, even if they were equally funded, staffed, etc.? Sure it may sound extreme / silly, but this is a case of "separate but equal". Fortunately for several years now society has recognized that this should not be tolerated... why should other forms of it be? |

What is wrong with this statement? The United Church of Canada has said it will bless same-sex marriages. We're speaking of freedom of religion, why should that religion not be free to establish a "marriage"? Is there a hierarchy of religions? |

Then let God smite those gay couples that decide to get married.
(on a side note, I can't say I've heard of too many people being struck by lightning in the village since gays have been allowed to marry in Ontario). :) |

Well me, beautiful... this planet is going straight to hell. And no, I didn't mean that in religious way.
Changing the laws that have been around for milleniums (marriage = a union between two people of opposite sex) to accomodate less than 1% of the population? What a hell? I say those 1% should suck it up and go with the flow...
what's next? erasing the terms man/woman, and mother/father from the law as well and calling it a person with a dick, person with a vagina, person with both/none of those, etc? jesus christ... if he could only see this :D
btw, on my OSAP documents it clearly states Mother/Guardian and Father/Guardian... apparently someone "straight" thought of that one, having in the back of his head the fact that CHILDREN are made by a MOTHER and a FATHER. |

I'm looking at the 2004-2005 OSAP application form online right now... throughout it says father (or parent 1) and mother (or parent 2). |

My exact thoughts exactly. Whether the state calls it a marriage or not doesn't actually make it a marriage. If you call an elephant a car, it's still a freakin elephant.
I've never been a huge fan of legislating moral issues like gay-marriage, premarital sex, drugs, etc. I'm not sure God's too impressed with people who are 'good' just because they were forced to be. |
