hee hee. cute. funny.

but why? why, because "the wife" is the weaker person right? The one that talks about hair and shopping and cleans the house.

Right.

whats really important in the marriage is the religious paper

I couldnt give a flying about whut a freakin' "religious paper" says... im an atheist and no way in hell would i ever go thru with being married in a church.

the only things that matters to me is that the state recognizes that im married.

the church has no significance or importance to my life whutsoever!

If you see "wife" as a derogatory term you really do need to seek councilling.

I dunno, but as far as im concerned, the parties can call each other spouse and spouse, partner and parner, husband and husband or wife and wife.

if 2 chicks got married, i stronly imagine they would each consider the other their wife (since wife is a title assumed by a woman) and if two men got married they would each consider the other their husband (since humand is a title assumed by a man)

Woah ! Seems like we've taken two steps backwards in this debate. Where did the womens right issue suddenly crop up ? If 'wife' is now a politically dirty word them i'm sorry, i have to agree with quite a lot of the sentiment in this thread that Canada truely is a PC society that has began to take itself a little too seriously.

Most men i have known are proud to have a woman bear the title of their 'wife'. Wife DOES NOT EQUAL housecleaner ! I can't imagine why anyone would say that it does. Personally, i like the term 'better half', 'significant other' -- it sounds cuter, but lets not throw away the titles of 'husband' and 'wife' just yet, because they are in a foundation of society.

I can't understand the womans lib movement which now nitpicks every little facet of the language like somehow words are the reason that women don't have equality. Like changing women, to wymon or whatever is suddenly going to eradicate all the problems women face. Seems like some feminisists have way too much time on their hand (which doesn't surprise me, since none of em are cleaning the house, or fixing their hair for hubby when he comes back home :p )

The way i see it, some of these changes will never effect peoples lives because they are restricted to the legal domain which hardly any of us really exist in. Most men and women still prefere the term husband and wife. It's one of those things you grow up listening to and accept. Just because in the eyes of the law you have a spouse doesn't change the fact that in your heart that person will always be seen as your 'husband' or 'wife'.

Thank god (figuritively of couse) that yall are on this board and feel the way you do... and then also that you take the considerable time and effort to post the posts that you do on this topic!!

Your points and arguments are fantastic and its just too bad that it takes so many to get the damn point across! I dont udnerstand how whut is said keeps being somehow not recgonized ?? Its quite frustrating to see/read

I just read them and think YES YES YES... thats exactly it. THANK GOD there are others standing up and trying to get across the msg

Tatgirl, ur point about the animals is so true. ive read about it before and i even made some similar remakrs in a prior thread about this topic (prolly back in late fall/winter 2004)

It's only when u get a man who calls his wife his 'property', is where I have an issue. Wife, spouse, old lady- whatever.

Some people on here are just trying to use a play on words to infuriate the masses about some dumb semantics, when what they're REALLY upset about is equal rights for homosexuals.

My sentiments exactly. Kudos!

No thanks needed. I'm just surprized more people here aren't jumping in in defence, but I attribute that to people not being interested in opening yet another stupid political thread.

SILENCE= DEATH

You GOTTA stand up for those in need of defending. There's no room for these bigoted ideas in today's society.

One thing Shadowolf is good at doing is TWISTING words to infuriate the masses. Just this past weekend, he tried throwing in a FALSE accusation that Markus Schulz was injured at the last Tel Aviv club bombing, hoping it would incite a riot among people who didn't know otherwise. Luckily, the lie was spotted immediately. That stupid move just makes him look desperate.
