So I read all this over.
For those guys that actually care about calling your wife a "wife". Maybe you should first wait until you get a "wife" and see what she lets you call her. "Wife" actually has some of it's own connotations, and they aren't good ones either. Calling someone a spouse at least makes them equal. Of course all the men in this thread are against making anyone equal to the mighty MALE. Be it gays or women. |

I guess that's a matter of personal opinion.
What may be really important to you is the religious paper. What may be really important to others is the civil paper and the rights / responsibilities it brings with it.
I imagine for the vast majority of same-sex couples, they could care less what the religious slip (if any) says... they're concerned about the government paper. |

| Seriously, when u read this amendment (http://www.ontla.on.ca/documents/Bi...ion1/b171_e.htm), it makes a hell of a lot of sense to me. For one, it will probably save a lot of space (and ink) on these forms. With gays being able to marry in this country, they technically become spouses anyways, and there's no need to define them as 'same sex partners'. If you see the names John & Mike down there, I think u can figure that out for yourself. |

isn't Canada just one big testing pool with all of us representing social guinea pigs? where else in the world can you find all these different cultures/nations living together in peace?
and regarding the gay marriage and the change of the term "marriage", when was the last time you guys even listened to the government and what they had to say? I say " them", do your own thing, and until they try and prohibit you from calling your wife a "wife", or from referring to yourself as a "mother/father", just chill, don't get up on my grill, and rap with the dude like he's your homeboy... ;) |

I dont understand what the big in fuss is all about. Although i think marriage is a very stupid ritual...we shouldnt deny people of certain groups what others have the freedom to utilize.

The wording of the law is changed to be more inclusive. "Spouse" has always been a fine and good English word. And just because you are referred to in a certain context as "spouse" or "parent", it doesn't make you any less of a wife or husband or mom or dad or brother or sister. The language used in a law is used to specify the particular set of people or things that the law applies to.
If a law says "a brother must not yell at his sister" and it is changed to "a person must not yell at one's sibling", does that make you any less of a brother or sister? If a law says "A husband cannot beat his wife", and we change it to "A person cannot beat another person", will we all have issues with that? The wording is changed so that the rule applies to a different set of people. This is a logical consequence to the re-definition of marriage, which I *do* have issue with.
I do not accept that a family with same-sex "parents" can be as good an environment for raising children as a family with biological parents can be. But unfortunately this is only my opinion of the best case scenario. Sadly in this day and age, many families bourne of heterosexual marriages are NOT ideal environments for raising children.
If I were omniscient and omnipotent I would make it ILLEGAL for even heterosexuals to get married if I knew they cannot provide a good environment for raising a family. I have a good friend whose parents got married in Vegas. What a f'ing joke. They're divorced now. |

LOL so now we have people saying that the word "wife" itself is discriminatory.
Sheesh... where will it end?
If anyone gets upset at being called a wife then maybe they shouldnt become one. |
