You can create sounds and tracks in Reason which are good enough to be
released on vinyl or on any audio cd. (Airbase, Robert Nickson, Prodigy )

B u t: If you ever have the possibility to listen to the Reason productions on good monitors and compare it to other tracks, which are
made of VSTi synth or even hardware synths, you will really understand
why the sound of Reason is a little bit out of date.

TBH, propellerheads have improved on their sound engine. I have been using reason's Re-Drum for obviously my drums etc..... and I have noticed a drastic improvment in sound quality since v1.0.

I personally think that the synths, effects etc.....are a load of bull, compared to using VSTi with cubase....IMO.

I really wish that someone would invent a Re-Drum VSTi, so I wouldn't have to pay silly money for my drum sequences alone !!!

IMHO, it's bad that they're charging $500 for a piece of buggy software that doesn't have enough new additions from the previous version to justify the high price. Reason 3.0 is what 2.5 should've been.

Amen rico,

It should have been named "Reason 2.7" as they're not offering much bang for the buck compared to v2.5, despite the work on the sound engine.

work on the sound engine? They improved it finally? Propellerheads
claimed since ever that the sound engine was fantastic and there was
nothing to improve. Hard to believe...

They have NOT done any work on the sound engine except for giving a dithering option when exporting. This is straight from a propellerheads employee.

And I don't get what you people are saying about the sound *engine*, sure the synths are kinda thin and stuff but that's a problem with them, there's no real sound quality issues.
RiCo
Really? Export a track straight from Reason. Then, Rewire it to Cubase or other sequencer and export the same track. You can be partially deaf and still notice the difference in quality and shine between the two. That's the first thing I noticed when I got 2.5 last year.
Erty
The only difference I hear is that the one exported from Reason will be lower in volume but that doesn't have anything to do with quality really.

alright guys im really muddled up now from reading this whole thread!
i had my sights set on a MIDI keyboard, Reason 2.5 and Rewire it with Cubase. (yes i have a good sound card! and a resonable good computer)
now does that noob set up seem ok, cause throughout the threads most have been bagging the out of it really. i thought reason was a great program but now i have no confidence in buying it now.

what shall i do?
is there other great VSTI out there like reason, or shall i buy a whole heap of separate VSTI'S. But really it would be cost effective buying reason as it has the whole studio setup with synths and drums.
i am very new to production, so i am trying to learn as much pros and cons when using software and hardware and also have just been stuffing around to get used to the programs to see how they work (DEMOS).

THANKS :)
