Is Ishkur correct on Progressive trance?

If so, I am proud to declare myself a proghead alongside a goahead. I always thought progressive was boring, mumbly stuff that never really got anywhere... and as I'm usually correct, Ishkur has to be wrong, right?

I mean, BT - Flaming June = Progressive? :conf:
DRM
no hes not right on the whole :

Cm - Dream Universe : ok yeah this is early prog trance

Three Drives - Greece 2000 : no way is this prog, doesnt have any elements of prog at all

LSG - Netherworld : Tech Trance with a slightly prog vibe but not really. This was one of the first tunes to start off the whole tech trance genre as we know it today imo.

Lost Tribe - Gamemaster : not remotely prog

Andy Ling - Fixation : has various prog elements, borderline really but is far too quick to be prog.

Bt - Flaming June : :wtf:

Tekara - Breath In You : again far too fast to be considered anything close to progressive. doesnt have any prog sounding elements either.

Sasha - Xpander : Definatly has a prog trance sound to it. probably the best suited of the examples.

Spacepunks - Another Space ( 2000 Mix): never heard of this tune. seems lacking in prog sounding elemtents from the short sample, tho hard to tell.

ishkur knows all.

btw, you could have asked this in the thread already dedicated to the legendary guy.

Yes, but then an answer would've taken longer. Why does Ishkur put up obviously wrong samples then?

the same reason you bitch so much about things, freedom of speech
aloep
Genre classifications change over time. Back in 1997, "Flaming June" was classed by many as Progressive Trance or Progressive House. Same goes for "Gamemaster".

a lot of thoes were probably concidered prog trance, since oakenfold played most in his sets.

Most prog trance today is not "prog" trance. 95% of it is just watered down trance, with longer bassline notes. Which is why most of it sucks.

anyway ishkur and his guide are a joke

Tilt are probably my favorite progressive trance artists

No, not because Oakenfold played them, and not because he has freedom of speech. He actually has a reason, unlike you clueless knobheads. ALL of the samples are progressive trance. Lemme just quote him where he explains it all:

The defining signature of Progressive Trance, that differentiated it from regular trance around 95 or so, were bass chord changes that, although the lead synth was just repeating itself, gave it the feeling of it moving forward or building towards something ie: progressing. Hence Progressive. It's the oldest trick in music. Go to my Guide and listen to the Progressive Trance samples. ESPECIALLY Gamemaster and Dream Universe....ignore the lead synth and listen to what the bass chord is doing, how it changes keys every four bars.

All the genres that spawned from that...especially the ridiculous, pompous anthem ones, utilize the same technique to idiotic extremes, giving it an "uplifting" feel. Probably where the butchered yet aptly described "Uplifting Trance" comes from.

"Progressive" as a just genre all by itself is nothing like Progressive Trance, but people are lazy about making up new names for things. Here is where the confusion comes in. The stuff on Digweed's Bedrock CDs is hardly Progressive, hardly Trance, and definitely not Progressive Trance (except for the overrated Heaven Scent). It's more of a monotonous house vibe, though I would hesitate to call it house. No one knows where it goes. I sometimes sarcastically call it "House Trance". I have it on my guide as UK House, since only the British could make something that boring.

As previousely stated by the man himself his site is a joke. And is not made to be taken seriousely. What part of that do you not understand. knobhead.

Even if thoes tracks somewhat resemble Prog trance, they still are not tracks that define the genre so shouldn't be there in the first place.

cass & slide - perception = prog trance imo

Thats another tough one cause it really isn't layered more then any other trance. But it has a progressive bassline.

Perception is like good "Mcprog"

Listen to Tilt - Headstrong (Parks & Wilson Scalpel Mix)

there are soo many layers its quite a cool production if you listen to the whole 11 minutes...

Those tracks ARE prog trance, knobhead. Just as much as the tracks in the Detroit Techno section are detroit techno, the chicago house samples are chigaco house, the jump up samples are jump up, AND THAT'S NO JOKE. As most people should know, the samples are one of the few things that AREN'T a joke except in the obviously made up genres.

They should be there and they define the genre. He gave his reasons. What are yours? That it doesn't "sound" like progressive trance? Well let me give you a tip, you don't have a ing clue what progressive trance sounds like any more than you do any other genre invented before 1999.
