See, the problem is that men of today have been taught their entire lives that we should be less confrontational. We've been socialized to believe that unless something is really important we should be apethetic about it. Additionally, we have enough that we need to deal with and many times just don't give a about the small stuff. Myself, I work in a profession that is completely based on adversarial confrontation.... if I'm not actively involved in a confrontation I'm preparing for a future confrontation. I argue all day long. So, if I don't want to visit my in-laws with my wife on a Saturday afternoon but she's set on it I'd rather grin and bare it then be bothered getting into yet another confrontation... especially since a man really cannot win an argument with his wife (believe me all women find a way to make the man pay for it therefore even if we win we lose). Now, when it comes to someone messing up my dinner order I'll always call them on it.... I recall one time I ordered pork tenderloin and got a pork chop, I brought it to the waitress' attention and she tried to convince me that the chop was a tenderloin.... by the time I was done I had my entire table's meal on the house.

that's what i'm talking about. it seems like most guys wouldn't do that for fear of looking like a jerk. i just feel like there is a big role reversal thing going on.

i think women are making a huge comeback from the past... kinda of like how a lot of blacks are still mad about slavery and are very agressive/hostile towards white people...like still mad about the past. well now women are all like motivated and confrontational and kicking ass these days and the men are being wussies.

the same thing with dating and approaching the opposite sex. it's like now all of a sudden women are walking up to guys and buying them drinks and going home to have sex and leave in the morning. ahhaah i haven't gone that far, and personally i'm against that kind of behavior...but now we've made it too easy for guys and now they have that attitude like, "whatever, if she's interested she can get my number".

Nail on the head there.

We get brought with all these ideals of how bad it is to be an uncouth man and how we should be more sensitive and blah blah

then, once we've matured with all these ideals, we get harped on again for not being manly enough.

lol

The funny thing is that most guys seem to realize at some point that nobody cares how sensitive they are and that nice guys finish last. But they still can't un-learn their passive, non-confrontational behavior.

Why the isnt this happening over here?!! :(

or maybe it is, but i am just to pugly? :conf: damn, i wish someone would buy me my drinks, even a guy to buy them for me.

Anyway, on the "guys being pussies" issue, i think its more "guys being lazy".

Take the stak example, now if my steak was overdone instead of rare or whatever i really wouldnt give a . Meat is meat, i am happy either way. Also, given the choice of handing it back and waiting another 15 minutes or whatevr for the food or jsut eating whatver is in front of me straight away, the straight away opition wins hands down.

They could even serve me pork instead of steak, if the first bite tastes good then i am happy.

well we have bene putting in the effort for first part of earth, now its your turn.

Pretty soon you'll realise its a hell of a lot easier to have someone else bitch about something than for you....its easier to have someone approach you and ask for your number than for you to do it...

I don't think there is a role reversal at all, I think that men are finally getting some smarts to backup their lethargic lifestyle wants.

and stop complaining about men not complaining, gosh, women, always complainning.

yea it has to do with peronality too.

my boyfriend is very simple..."what you see is waht you get"..never gripes, always down for whatever, and that's why we get along because believe it or not, i'm like that in many ways too...but sometimes i gotta draw the line and speak up, especially when he doesn't.

the funny thing is that when I was growing up, my mom was like that. Just really assertive and always sticking up for herself and I would always get embarrassed that she was "making a scene". Hahah now look at me.

I tell you it's all socialization. Men in North America (I cannot speak for anywhere else) have been taught that we need to be sensitive and passive because aggression is socially unacceptable. Women on the otherhand are being sociallized to believe that they have to fight for what they want because they live in a male dominated patriarchial world where they will be repressed unless they are better and more aggressive then the next woman or even the next man.

Our parent's generation raised us in an attempt to correct the ills they perceived our society had. Unfortunately, this creates new problems. A few years ago I tried to resociallize myself by adopting as life principles many of the teachings of Nitzsche as his philosophy is at great odds with what I perceived as my greatest weaknesses. I have had quite a bit of success in this, however, I still defer my own feeling in consideration of other people's quite often.
