Karim...I agree with your post. I just think it's much more reasonable to try to get the best information out there (and sex ed is by far not perfect, especially in catholic schools) rather than obsessing and freaking out over the fact that some 14 year olds are having sex. People are always going to be getting it on...so why don't we try to manage the problem and lessen the risk rather than combat the problem with "don't do it" which will never work. This same ideology has been applied in Africa rather than supporting the use of condoms. Now look at the state of that continent in relation to the spread of HIV/AIDS. |
Wasn't arguing with you one bit. Just backing you up.

not that way :nervous: :nervous: |
Not surprised that you thought I meant it in that way. Just pointing out that chemicals in our brain that make us love something are seperate from the hormones one gets from puberty. Yes, alot of it goes hand in hand, but love isn't subject to age.
But then again, it's impossible to define what love actually is.

I went to Catholic school, and we learned all about sex, including all methods of birth control. The only things we didn't learn in school were techniques (and positions). What more do you want in sex ed?

again, I differentiate between teens and pre-teens.... NO pre-teen should be having sex, no matter how educated they may be.... teens develop differently so you can't judge them all the same way, but regardless they should all be educated about it |

you'd be surprised how many preteens have sexual urges though. But I'm not sure why you brought up that age group. Nobody in their right mind would think it's ok for a 10 year old to engage in sexual activity. |

| What a pack of dirty whores! I say ship 'em off to some place where they can infect each other with their diseases (oh, , that's right, most of them are in Banff already....). :D |

sex at under 16 is disgusting imo. I mean for s sake, people have plenty of time to have sex later on, why the rush?
and don't give me the love bull. teenage love is as real as britney's boobs
maybe god made acne and pimples so that youngins won't be attractive enough for sex :p |

| You should not be having sex until you can drive. Nothing better then the first time in the back seat of ma and pa's sedan. |

I think you've misunderstood me. I never said 16 yrs olds shouldn't have sex, period. I did say most 16 yr olds do not understand what having means in terms of physically, and emotionally.
Heck, if sex involves only one person (well, there's masterbation) and that person is the only person affected by sex, I could care less what he or she does. But sex involves two (or more) people. Most teens to my observation get emotionally involved with another person more intensely after sex. And considering how much stupid things teens do these days, well, they can ruin other people's lives.
As much as 'biological' sexual urges are, heck, if I indulge in all my urges and desires, along with everyone in this world, I'd be surprise if there is any humanity left.
Humans aren't animals. |
Humans are animals though ... at the very core .... if you study enough psychology and human nature, you will understand that we are still animals.
We give ourselves too much credit as a species. We are not as civilized as we think we are. The modern world simply disguises our animalistic nature quite well, and the other thing is that denying this nature or trying to repress it causes some profound psychological problems.
Think about it ... why do we have sex? Biologically, it's to procreate. Most people though do it because it feels good, or because they feel "love" ... I say "love" in quotes because love is a broad and abstract concept, that does not have a single definition. Sex feels so good because through evolution it's been designed this way. We have adapted to feel pleasure during sex, because it gives us HUGE motivation to procreate. It's so simple, yet so effective! Fact is, if sex wasn't very pleasurable, MOST people would have it A LOT less. Sure, people who are in "love", or people with a deep connection would have it anyways, but let's face it, most people aren't like that.
Now let's see more in detail how we are animals. Take modern life in Toronto ... most people have a fast paced day, usually work their 9 - 5 ... come home, too busy or too tired to spend time with the kids. Rinse and repeat this daily. Now for what reason do most people work? Is it to get by ... to survive? I doubt it ... because you can live, actually survive very easily today ... you'd have to be a complete idiot not to. Even working a minimum wage job is more than enough to survive. So then, we work not for needs, but mostly for wants, our desires. We may work in hopes of being rich, and getting lots of gorgeous people attracted to us ... we may work for any number of reasons ... maybe to have fun ... maybe just to flirt ... the list goes on.
At the very core though .. we are all doing the same thing, and in the long run, getting nowhere. Are we advancing society in any way? IS the average person even aware of this? Material goods and services around us are advancing sure, but the most important part, we OURSELVES ... are barely moving. Socially and culturally, we have not changed noticeably for thousands of years. To but it blunty, we live much the same lives as people did a thousand years ago, only we're in a different environment, and under a different guise.
Everyday ... thousands of people die FOR NO REASON at all. In some countries, you could get shot for your car ... or your watch ... is this not animalistic? In many places, sex slaves, and the sex trade is rampant, with huge amounts of women and illegal underage girls being forced to work as sex slaves or prostitutes. Is this not animalistic? Being forced to work as a slave? Or how about 3rd world labour?
How about the fact that most of the world's population resides in third world countries, while most of the wealth resides in first world countries. In other words, the world's wealth is owned and controlled by a very small percentage of people.
I can keep going and going about how we are animals ... but I will stop here.
In short ... we are simply animals, with self awareness, and an imagination.
There are those few who wish to progress the species to a higher level, and those who are totally outcast from society, yet they are the smartest out of all of us.
We have potential to *eventually* become more than animals ... but this is the paradox ... our animalistic nature holds us back ... with only our imagination and self awareness providing us the means to further evolve or advance. |

So yesterday the results of a survey were released that indicated that teens are having SEX!!! :eyespop: :eyespop: Average age of teens that lose their virginity is 16.5...:eyespop: :eyespop:
I don't get it...what's so startling about this?! :conf: :conf: :conf: |
I agree...I think 17ish is a decent age to have sex. 16 maybe, but at least personally, I think that would be the limit. To me, 13, 14, 15...is a bit too young. What I think is ridiculus are the 12 year olds having sex! I saw on Maury...while I was flipping through the channels, I SWEAR!...some girl dropped out of school in grade 6 to take care of her child and she didn't know who the father was! What is the world coming to! I think kids should AT LEAST be in high school. And like I said, 16...17...good age. |

lol don't believe everything you see on Maury :toothless :toothless I think that show is BS...it's retarded to begin with but I just can't stop watching it sometimes :haha: :stongue:
Either way I don't think there's anything wrong with sex other than that kids need to be educated! Primarily his has to be done by PARENTS and not by school! Also, I blame some religions for a lot of these problems.
I personally lost my virginity at 17 with someone I loved, it was perfect...but everything went downhill since :toothless now i'm a whore :haha: :stongue:
Anyway...it's up to parents to educate their children about sex and stds and all that stuff! |

honestly....sex at age 16 is facked! I don't care how smart or safe you are...it's wayy to young! |
Excuse me??
The point you made after this, is that a girl might get pregnant at 16... so blatantly you do care about how smart or safe they are!
I had sex at 16 actually. I don't regret it for one damn moment. And yes, you can be safe at that age actually. Maybe not everyone is, but i certainly was. I've had more scares since being over 20 than i ever had when i was that age.
And i agree with lipstick on this point, they're going to have sex, whether you like or not, so teachers might as well teach the kids about protection in order to avoid 16 yr olds becoming pregnant and/or getting STDs. |
