Humans are animals though ... at the very core .... if you study enough psychology and human nature, you will understand that we are still animals.

We give ourselves too much credit as a species. We are not as civilized as we think we are. The modern world simply disguises our animalistic nature quite well, and the other thing is that denying this nature or trying to repress it causes some profound psychological problems.

Think about it ... why do we have sex? Biologically, it's to procreate. Most people though do it because it feels good, or because they feel "love" ... I say "love" in quotes because love is a broad and abstract concept, that does not have a single definition. Sex feels so good because through evolution it's been designed this way. We have adapted to feel pleasure during sex, because it gives us HUGE motivation to procreate. It's so simple, yet so effective! Fact is, if sex wasn't very pleasurable, MOST people would have it A LOT less. Sure, people who are in "love", or people with a deep connection would have it anyways, but let's face it, most people aren't like that.

Now let's see more in detail how we are animals. Take modern life in Toronto ... most people have a fast paced day, usually work their 9 - 5 ... come home, too busy or too tired to spend time with the kids. Rinse and repeat this daily. Now for what reason do most people work? Is it to get by ... to survive? I doubt it ... because you can live, actually survive very easily today ... you'd have to be a complete idiot not to. Even working a minimum wage job is more than enough to survive. So then, we work not for needs, but mostly for wants, our desires. We may work in hopes of being rich, and getting lots of gorgeous people attracted to us ... we may work for any number of reasons ... maybe to have fun ... maybe just to flirt ... the list goes on.

At the very core though .. we are all doing the same thing, and in the long run, getting nowhere. Are we advancing society in any way? IS the average person even aware of this? Material goods and services around us are advancing sure, but the most important part, we OURSELVES ... are barely moving. Socially and culturally, we have not changed noticeably for thousands of years. To but it blunty, we live much the same lives as people did a thousand years ago, only we're in a different environment, and under a different guise.

Everyday ... thousands of people die FOR NO REASON at all. In some countries, you could get shot for your car ... or your watch ... is this not animalistic? In many places, sex slaves, and the sex trade is rampant, with huge amounts of women and illegal underage girls being forced to work as sex slaves or prostitutes. Is this not animalistic? Being forced to work as a slave? Or how about 3rd world labour?

How about the fact that most of the world's population resides in third world countries, while most of the wealth resides in first world countries. In other words, the world's wealth is owned and controlled by a very small percentage of people.

I can keep going and going about how we are animals ... but I will stop here.

So, does this mean acting on these animalistic feelings/instinct the right thing to do? Personally, I think I use the gift of reason that often others fail to use to separate themselves from their animalistic self.

Wow, I wish I could comment on this subject. I so cant tho. Im such a complicated case :)

I do think preteens is too young. As for 16, 15, as long as you know what your getting into, and your educated enough to know the consequences of your actions, then all the power to you. If you act stupid and irresponsible, something stupid will happen to you and I will not feel any sympathy for you whatsoever. If they're making educated decisions on the situation, then hell, all the power to you...

Oh and I totally agree with loca, Ive encountered more scares whatnot when I was way older, 19 etc...then when I was younger.

Its not always about age. Its also about state of mind and maturity.

I had sex at 16 actually. I don't regret it for one damn moment. And yes, you can be safe at that age actually. Maybe not everyone is, but i certainly was. I've had more scares since being over 20 than i ever had when i was that age.
And i agree with lipstick on this point, they're going to have sex, whether you like or not, so teachers might as well teach the kids about protection in order to avoid 16 yr olds becoming pregnant and/or getting STDs.

Good point. Personally I think having sex at 14, 15 and maybe 16 is a bit young. But that's just what I wouldn't do personally. I did have sex just after I turned 17, and like you, I don't have any regrets. I wasn't in love with the person, but I did have strong feelings for him, and we talked a lot about it, and I think I made the right decision. I am still good friends with the guy now.
I agree with what you say that kids are going to have sex whether we like it or not. And it's very important that they're educated. I know myself, I was educated mostly by sex ed classes and my friends. My parents didn't really touch on the subject too much, other than to tell me if I get pregnant, I better find a new place to live. And I still have to keep the fact that I'm sexually active from them. I was very responsible though. I looked into different methods of birth control, and went on the pill before I started having sex, and I never have sex without a condom. I get checked regularly for STDs, and I'm careful with who my sexual partners are.
I think there's a lot of kids out there who aren't responsible because their parents don't accept the fact that kids will have sex at young ages and they don't educate them. They simply say "no". Well, even if some parents are going to stay strictly old fashioned, I think that there should be a good place for kids to find out information about sex so that they can still be responsible.

Right or wrong, we are still animals, and because imagination and self awareness are relatively new in terms of human evolution, it makes them higher levels of thinking, therefore they will always be influenced by the lower level, core instincts that make us animals.

It's just like me saying "wow ... look at that dog ... he can walk around on two feet ... what a smart dog"

Ok, he can walk around and all, but in the end, he's still a dog, still an animal.

Imagination and self-awareness do not suddenly make our animal instincts and nature dissapear, it's still there. As I said, we are still animals, only with some new tricks.

honestly....sex at age 16 is facked! I don't care how smart or safe you are...it's wayy to young!

In the old days people used to get married at 16. There's nothing wrong with having sex at that age. There are far worse things you can do at 16 and sex in definitely not one of them.

in the old old old days........ people did not live past 40 or so

waiting until you were 18 would be like waiting until your 35-40?????

:nervous: :nervous: :nervous:

although is this not when women hit their peak????? ;)

**** seriously though - there are a lot of hang-ups about sex and not enough proper education/outlets for discussion on proper decision making in this area of our public media.......:sadgreen:

You should not be having sex until you can drive. Nothing better then the first time in the back seat of ma and pa's sedan.

LMFAO!!!!

That is the way to be...

but then again, some ppl never learn to drive... does that mean they have to be chaste?
