If he fails to win the Intertoto cup and has a very poor start to the season there's no doubt he'll get the sack. The only problem is Shepherd will probably sack him just after the transfer window closes like he did with Bobby Robson!

He wants the next manager to be from Newcastle and as Steve Bruce seems quite settled at Birmingham (and is a manager anyway) then it seems highly likely that Shearer will become our next manager despite having absolutely no management experience at all. He won't have built up a team of backroom staff either and would probably inherent the current e we have.

I suppose the best bit of news is that Souness only has a year left on his contract. Unless he does something special in the next 12 months I think we'll have seen the last of him then and can look to the future!

Middlesbrough,

It hurts doesn't it?

Even we can win something nowadays :D

Parker to newcastle, cant be to disappointed by that move?

I still think souness will turn newcastle around. RObert has got a serious attitude problem, and cant defend for . I think it was the FA cup semi final where you got destroyed down the left.

Robert has no interest in crossing the half way line to defend, thats not acceptable for a left wing. Every other left wing in premierships tries to defend.

Kluivert didnt cut it, wages were far too. He seems to be drifting from club to club just after money. AS bellamy, how can newcastle fans want him back after what he did?!

As for that scummer bowyer, he belongs in prision, not on a football pitch.

Parker would be an excellent signing, I think we're buying him at the right time to be honest. He was unlucky to break his foot at Chelsea and he was never going to dislodge Makelele and Lampard, but looked quality when he played against us in the Carling Cup.

The media think we'll beat Everton to Emre's signature as well. Inter Milan say they've accepted a bid of around 4M from a couple of English clubs. Moyes flew to Milan apparently on the weekend but Souness is going to try and tie Emre down to a deal this week, although his wages will be a problem.

Regarding the Carling Cup, Babayaro was playing with an injury at left back and came off at half time for N'Zogbia. He could barely run for most of the first half and was the main reason we were destroyed down our left side. Butt was the biggest disgrace of that game though, couldn't be bothered at all, directly assisted one of Man Utd's goals and at the end of the game when all our players went to applaud the fans Butt ran off down the tunnel.

My gut feeling is Newcastle will do better next season but still not good enough. Thinking with my head and not my heart I'd predict us for upper-mid table. All depends who we bring in and who Souness falls out with.

It looks like Bowyer could be on his way to Birmingham. Bolton and Portsmouth are battling to get Robert, no idea which he'll go to yet. Charlton are interested in Ambrose, we're apparently willing to sell.

i think so as well... however i think you guys desperately need a striker ...definately your #1 priority this season ... shearers almost a fossil and with bellamy and kluivert gone theres no hitman quite of the caliber that the geordies require ... parker is a fantastic buy no doubt but it is very surprising that you guys have not been linked with any strikers so far

To be honest, i can't see why we might come to a halt with Emre due to his wages, hes on about 55grand a week, yet we pay 60grand for dyer.

A striker is the number one priority I agree.

I think Souness may be planning on playing Dyer up front next season, he's started to find his scoring touch and provides us with the pace we've lacked since Bellamy, but he's injury prone and we still need a 20 goal a season striker.

We've been linked with a few strikers, some good and some not so good, but nothing concrete yet.

Robert has chosen Portsmouth over Bolton and signed a 3 year deal.

Still no mention of the fee.

Portsmouth fans are very happy, calling it their biggest ever signing.

Parker to Newcastle for £6.5M. Going to be unveiled in a press conference this afternoon.

quote:
"This is the club for me.

"I know that other clubs were keen on me, but as soon as I heard Newcastle were interested there was only one place I was going.

"I know some people say that Newcastle may have under-achieved last year, but they got to the semi-final of the FA Cup and the last eight of the UEFA Cup, and in my eyes - and a lot of people's eyes - this is still a massive club.

"The stature of this club is massive and I really have a high regard for the manager, Graeme Souness.

"He is one of the reasons I have decided to come here. He has been unbelievable in all this and so too has the chairman.

"I could have stayed in London and kept my family down there.

"Everybody knows about Spurs, but I have chosen Newcastle United. That says it all.

"Last season was really non-existent for me. I didn't figure much.

"But I did play at St James' Park in Chelsea's Carling Cup win and the atmosphere was brilliant.

"When I arrived in Newcastle last night the first thing I did was have a look around the stadium. Obviously, it was empty but it was still daunting.

"I know how passionate the Newcastle fans are and I cannot wait to play in front of them.

"I want this to be a big season for me as well as Newcastle and obviously the World Cup at the end of it.

"As far as England are concerned, I need to stay fit and need to be playing and after that I will just have to wait and see."

Fantastic news. He was Young Player of the Year last April, ahead of John Terry, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Wayne Rooney. A player very much in the mould of Gerrard. The Chelsea fans are gutted to see him go, which has to be a good sign.

Nonda from AS Monaco? He experienced good coaching from Didier Deschamps. Still just an utility striker good off the bench to add speed.

Yeah. That's what I've heard about him. He's really good. I like him.
