This is one of the big problems I have now with the Conservative Party. You are right when you say most people vote for the party, yet the new Conservative Party supports referendums, free votes in parliment on "moral" issues. You can't have it both ways. |
Most people vote for the party no matter what party it is. And by reforming the system people would pay more attention to what the individual candidate has to say as opposed to the party. Right now people vote for the party because the indvidual on their own has virtually no say. |

Did you know that the single most socially conservative MP is in the Liberal Party (Tom Wappel)?
Or that one of the most socially liberal MP's is in the CPC (James Moore)?
Moral issues should always be subject to free votes. Partisan politics is overrated. |

I don't think that the timing of an actual election has anything to do with the majority...they can have it on Xmas for all we care...I think most Canadians want the current government to get things DONE including the Gomery inquiry....
I do agree with you Jay that a new way to govern or a new political process or reform is desperatly needed...I wrote a letter last Friday to the Toronto Sun (which they printed btw) and spoke of my disillusionment of this whole political fiasco...Ever since I can remember, no matter WHO was in power, there has been NO vision & true change in Canada and these clowns (Conservatives or Liberals or whoever) that go to Ottawa fall into that stagnant muck we call Canadian Politics. |
Vision and true change... The PC's under BM the PM brought about true change and vision and were destroyed because of it. The GST (ask any eonomist its a better tax than the one it replaced) and NAFTA. If these were such horrible things why did the Liberals not get rid of them as promised - because they aren't horrible. |

I heard an interview with her today on the news and she is in no way upset. Paul Martin owes her big time, but she is taking one for the team. Maybe if the Conservatives were more of a party you would see less problems when it came to internal issues. |
Meanwhile there are already protests going on a few streets over with martha hall findlay signs posted. She may not be upset or she may be putting on a game face, but clearly many voters in this area are pissed off. |

And the Liberals have no vision other than how they can forward themselves, not the country. |

And you want to trust a politician to make important decisions. To poll their constituants and then vote accordingly. Give me a break. Would any of the policies of the Harris government been implemented if the MPP's listened to their constituants? We vote for the leaders in Canada , they need to be strong and ne able to make the tough decision. |

Have you not been following the infighting and near implosion of the Liberals over the last few years?
Give me a break!!! |
Of course... there are only two options a) you're CPC, or b) you're corrupt.
Give me a break. |

I agree with you. I have voted for the PC's my entire life (federally and provincially) but I can not vote for Harper. What are you to do if you are a "red tory". As I said give me John Tory, Mike Harris and I would gladly vote for the Conservatives again. |

You have 77,203 friends or have seen people where all these people live?
Or even a reasonable sample of this consituency?
Give me a break. |

yes isnt that what they are elected for? If not then we should only have 1 person per party in parliament. |

i cant speak for 77,000 people but i do have a pretty good idea of the mood of an area that i lived in for over 20 years. Especially since this is still a relatively small town. |
