Ok. I'll buy that for two cents, even if I disagree. Though it is quite interesting way you put 'an MP is a representative, they do not have to act according to public opinion'. The question is, who is Stronach representing, if she does what she feels is best? lol

That is a good question, one that will be answered by the next election I suppose.

^Most people can't be arsed. It's one of faults for giving an avg joe who doesn't give a damn the power.

Yep. Though if I was in Aurora riding, and if my MP does something that seems to go against what the constituents's wishes are, I'd vote him/her out quit.

I vote for an MP to represent my interest first, then interest of Canada later. It's just way humans work.

Again, you're over simplifying this. Not everyone objects to having an election now because they are too lazy to vote or don't want their summer to be pre-occupied with election talk. I would suggest that most people don't want an election now because of the cost and/or they do not believe it is necessary. I'm not saying I agree with them, however, I highly doubt that the majority of Canadians don't want an election because they are worried about how it will effect their plans.

Lets remember that her and harper don't see eye to eye on many issues and she is pretty left wing for a conservative. It is not a stretch for her to make the jump to the liberal party. I think this is just the start of things to come. I bet there is a lot of deception in the ranks within the conservative party and you may see further MPs jump ship.

Agreed.

The biggest concern for me is the cost of another election....it doesn't matter when the election is I will be there to cast my vote. Face it...we are going to have an election either in the summer or late fall no matter what....let's just hope Canadians can make a decision that will put one party in power.

The people do not want an election, and her choice in switching parties reflects that.

How do you know? Do you have the poll numbers?

As I've said in another thread, people in Canada never want an election (ex. 1997 flood in Manitoba), but they rewarded the party that caused the election anyway.

We can't afford to keep the Lieberals in office! They've spent or promised top spend $23.5 BILLION in the past 3 weeks!!!!

The cost of an election pales in comparison to what they've wasted or swindled in office.

I don't think that the timing of an actual election has anything to do with the majority...they can have it on Xmas for all we care...I think most Canadians want the current government to get things DONE including the Gomery inquiry....

I do agree with you Jay that a new way to govern or a new political process or reform is desperatly needed...I wrote a letter last Friday to the Toronto Sun (which they printed btw) and spoke of my disillusionment of this whole political fiasco...Ever since I can remember, no matter WHO was in power, there has been NO vision & true change in Canada and these clowns (Conservatives or Liberals or whoever) that go to Ottawa fall into that stagnant muck we call Canadian Politics.

The commission will finish up in a couple of weeks, having completed its mandate.

Remember, that commission is just looking into AdScam, NOT the other Lieberal scandals (JudgeScam, Shawinigate, Oil-for-Food, Tsunami relief fraud, etc.)
