| theres truly no way to express a lot scene in words. the lot scenes at phish shows have provided some of the best times of my life and it almost pains me to speak of them now. let's just say its a gathering of almost every type of person in existence interacting and celebrating in eager anticapation of whats about to be created. its the show before the show and can sometimes be just as satisfying. |

Agreed.
But I've found myself completely disenfranchised witht he whole "hippie activist" scene... Unfortunately, after Phish NYE 2000, it was all downhill for me... I'm by no means a conservative, but I found myself having more and more issues with how many of my friends and people I knew in the scene always said they were there for a "reason" (Political, Environmental, etc.) but then just ended up so messed on Mushrooms, Molly, and Acid that they couldn't function, and in reality weren't doing anyone any good... Hence the term "Hippie-Crit."
But man, was the music damn good man... From the "California Love" version of "Tweezer" in Portland to the sickest YEM I've ever heard at Alpine in 2003, Phish pwns me...
Nice Nickname BTW Bear ;)
I wonder how many TA's get it :D |

No worries... Mid to late 60's counter-culture reference...
My favorite account of the late 60's might help ya.... (Click!)
PS: I know this covers the bands entire history, but I really found the detail they went into on the Acid tests and the relationship between the band & Owsley absolutely fascinating...
...
I could win an award for the number of threads I attempt to hijack :D
Edit: And Bear, the fact that only one person on the Umphrey's board realized that really makes me almost sad... Umphrey's fans are a big reason I'm so angry at jambands kids... But damn can they put on a ing show...
Edit: For a little EDM content to this post - The one track I've decided that I have to hear at least one time out live in a club, and think my best chance may be Oakey on Friday (If he indeed plays at all classic...) is:
Three Drives - Air Traffic (Cor Fijneman Mix)
BTW, anyone know off the top of their head if there's a DD to purchase for that? Don't feel like looking, Xannied  |

Played in NYC last weekend:
01. YTraxx - Mysteryland(Original Mix)
03. Armin - Blue Fear(Extended Mix)
06. Brainbug - Nightmare(Sinister Strings Mix)
10. LSG - Netherworld(Club Mix)
14. CJ Bolland - The Prophet(Original Mix)
I don't know if that's a good sign or a bad one, but I really want to hear any and/or all of those tracks.... Resident is such a kick ass disc... |
