What has happened to this scene???

I don't really have to bring it to your attention, but I want to. I went to Ascension 24 on Friday.. and was disgusted. Absolutely appalled. I couldn't count all the posers and twinks with an abacus. This scene is . You guys can argue the point, but it's true. How many times have you gone to a rave to see a mass of candy kids layed out across the floor, mashed like potatoes? This image is all too vivid for me. Those kids are giving us a bad name, and they have to get the out of our scene. I mean, what kind of responsible, mature person does 5 e's in one night, dresses like a moron and listens to music designed for e-tards..oh wait.. them.

Candy ravers are not hard to find. They are characterized best by their brightly lit furry/fuzzy phat pants, oodles and oodles of bracelets and necklaces, and enough pre-school paraphernalia to be the envy of any 4-year old. They are generally nice, fun people, with childlike enthusiasm, but after awhile can be irritating (see Etard). Prolonged exposure to them is thus not recommended.

Anyways.. my point goes further than those miserable beings. I just wanted to take a potshot at them. :D

It's directed at the ginos that come to hit on the mashed girls, the shirtless wonders. It's directed at the morons who aren't there because they like the scene, or dj'ing or anything rave-related aside from 'drugs'.. which, thanks to Oprah and every other talk show/newspaper/20/20 Special, has become so tightly knit together with the rave culture. If I had my way, no one would do drugs at a rave.. simple enough, isn't it? It would save you e-tards a lot of money, save some lives, and filter out the posers and drug-dealers that come to ruin our parties. So next time you see that moron with the sunglasses, no shirt, and a brightly colored top hat on, swing glowsticks around like a monkey; do the scene a favor and kick his ass.

Whew.. I needed to rant. :p

b.s.e. - one word for you - awareness.

Its always been like this, I hate to tell ya...

Avoid the raves, if you want less of the e-tards...
{b.s.e.}
Yeah, man... I know. But it's getting worse. Much worse.
And I do avoid raves as a rule. For that exact reason. I go to the odd party now and again, but it just doesn't do it for me. Maybe I got too jaded too fast, I don't know. But I just can't stand magging at a rave.

well i don't mind drugs so i really don't care. I don't mind candy kids either, and i think their attire adds to the rave. If they wanna have fun let them have fun.

Dude. Ok. Let me count to 10. Done.

WHY DO DRUGS NEED TO BE PART OF THE RAVE EXPERIENCE???????

sorry.. maybe I needed to count to 20. But seriously, candy kids are exactly what is wrong with this scene. Heatbag bastards. They are the ones that are shown on 20/20 t out of their mind on E.
They don't add to the aura.. they detract. I despise them with my soul. I don't hate them because they dress stupid (though it doesearn my disdain.).. I hate them because they are what the media makes us out to be. They can have fun (drugs) in their own apartments.. oh wait.. no they can't. Because they are all 15 or 16 year punks that are lying to their mommies and daddies about sleeping over at Susie or Bobby's house.

Is it getting worse? Or are you just noticing it more and more, with more rave experiences? I dont think that MORE people are getting MORE ed up at raves. The popularity of the scene and music is growing, but I bet at any one event the ratio of people rolling on the floor to the people there for the music hasnt changed much. People ass out on drugs are obvious, but that guy listening to the music in the dark corner isnt...

I understand why you might be pissed, but you also need to understand that just like you go for the music, some people go for the drugs, and some for both. Like beroshima said, its always been this way and the world doesnt change just because you dont like one aspect. Dont go to the raves, especially the well publicized, obvious ones if you dont want to see that ...throw your own parties, or simply ignore them. late/

I get what you mean by questioning drugs part in the scene, but they are there. And people rolling and happy could just as easily question why you are going to the raves bringing so much anymosity when you are all supposed to be there just to have a good time. Candy kids are irritating and stereotypical, but often they are what push the scene and support it, especially outside of Europe...peas/

Ahh. Damn you for reason. :D
I see those points, but I still remain. If you need drugs to have a good time, then drop some E and turn on your stereo.

It still doesn't excuse the posers and ginos who come to get some e'd out . I loathe those people. I'd just as soon beat the out of them, if they weren't so beefed up on steroids. :D

Since when did "ravers" become such judging and non-accepting people?

I mean, I don't often lash out on this board...I'm a really friendly person and even when I do find myself upset about a post I usually keep it to myself, but this...well I just can't help but speak my mind this time.

I don't know what "this scene" is to you, but anyone who's been around for a while will remember that "this scene" started as a place where anyone, no matter who they were or what substances they chose to or not to abuse, was accepted. Case Closed.

I became involved because I felt safe. There was no judging, no segregation....just total acceptance and the ability to give even a little bit of love to every stranger you met. Whether you were disabled, high, gay, normally teased by classmates, or in drag, EVERYONE was accepted. Because the point of it all was to go out, have fun, provide a safe place for anyone to party away from harrassment or negative feelings, and most importantly, recognize that everyone was worth a smile because underneath our differences we're all good people in our own way.

What has happened to "the scene" I know? Attitudes like the one you've brought to this thread, that's what. People who think that kids on drugs are ruining "their scene". Who are you to judge? What gives you the right to say that these kandy kids are ruining the scene when that clique of "raver" has been around since the very beginning?? At least they have spirit and still keep to the original credo we all began with: they are there to party, meet new people, and have a great time...they're not there to judge like so many people are nowadays.

Those poser and gingos that you're talking about have been there since the beginning as well....ALL kinds of people have been here since the beginning. Seriously, quit judging so much or else you just become part of the problem. Start accepting raves for what they are and not what you WANT them to be.

I mean, ...who really wants to put up with judgemental people who think they know what's good for the "scene" when everything they say goes directly against the reason this whole thing was started?

No wonder the queers and drag queens quit coming out...

I don't even feel accepted anymore when I go out and dance...I don't even do drugs anymore and I still get looks from people assuming I'm high and i'm detrimental to their precious scene.

It makes me so sad...when did people stop understanding what it was all about?

I see B.S.E.'s point. i half-way agree. But, you have to remember, that kids have been doing drugs at raves since they were started.... that has not changed. bug_bite is correct too, its the attitude at the raves that has changed..... why? times and publicity. I used to be a big raver... i'm a little older now, and don't go to the raves of old (like back in '93-'97)..... you just get tired of them and don't like them anymore.... a new generation comes into the rave scene.... its like when your parents had you - new generation, you and your parents don't get along too well do ya? i bet you have had fights with your younger sibling sometimes too, eh?

its not just that though.... its a change of attitude in the scene. b.s.e. is onto something here, although i'm not sure if i share his hostility. Due to publicity for raves through shows like he mentioned, most people view raves as an drugged-up easy place to take advantage of people. Due to this, i think a lot of the wrong crowd is the majority of the attendance now. A lot of people claiming to be kandy kids are not really kandy kids...... they are just "pretending" the image.... kids back in they day would do drugs at the raves, but it was to enhance the music..... now kids go just to have an excuse to do drugs. Sure, not all kids rolling are doing it JUST to do drugs, but i bet the majority are just using the rave environment as an excuse to roll..... i don't share the hatred though....

i think its publicity that has killed the rave scene...... and in my eyes, if its advertised publicly, its not a "rave"...... its an event. a rave (by true veteran definition), was an underground event that everyone found out through emails or voicemails or pagers.... and was at someones house or abandoned house or warehouse.... now they have sponsors, are advertised on radio, and everyone and their grandma is allowed...... but anyways..... you really can't compare to the raves of old because they are totally different now. :(
