Neo, I really hope the world does show the same kind of support. The death toll will not be even close to comparable (there are only 70 estimated deaths right now), but the cost of destruction will be far higher. Anyways, cnn.com has a nicely organized page for all the information you want. Here's the link.

The world sent a lot of aid to Asia in wake of the tsunami, I wonder if the US will get that kind of support.

Something tells me I already know the answer. :(

Well to be fair, and I'm no sayin this to take the piss, but America doesn't need any aid whatsoever like the Asian countries did

Sure it does.

Help doesn't always comes in money.

The Dutch could help New Orleans build a proper levee system for instance...

Other nations can send pumping/construction ships.

Mexico, Canada, can all send assitance - boats, helos, etc.

Frigates, hospital ships, transports...

And the Brits, well they're useless you're right ;)

We only rescue Russians!

Anyway, you list all those countries, but what's Israel gonna do?! Surely America must be able to get summat out of the alliance for once?!

Other than having a large merchant fleet (which isn't nationally owned anymore). Israel simply has not designed itself to react to floods and hurricanes. However, they do have an excellent ground rescue team which is sent the world over during natrual disasters typically envolving rubble and collapesed buildings.

Nations closest to the USA obviously have the most to give, next would be the nations with technical expertise and unused navies, next nations who can give money.

Right now all that Israelis are doing is donating out of their private funds to help the rescue efforts just like most Americans...

We knew this was coming.

Two days after 9/11, Jerry Falwell took to the airwaves to proclaim that God had allowed the United States to be attacked because "the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians" had tried to transform America into a secular society. Just this weekend, wingnuts from the Westboro Baptist Church turned out at the funerals of two fallen soldiers to say that God is punishing the United States in Iraq for its tolerance of homosexuality back home.

So when Hurricane Katrina hit land yesterday, we knew it was only a matter of time before we'd be hearing from the lunatic fringe again. And now, here it is. In an email message we just received, a group calling itself Columbia Christians for Life alerts us to the fact that a satellite image of Hurricane Katrina as it hit the Gulf Coast Monday looks just like a six-week old fetus.

"The image of the hurricane . . . with its eye already ashore at 12:32 p.m. Monday, August 29, looks like a fetus (unborn human baby) facing to the left (west) in the womb, in the early weeks of gestation (approx. 6 weeks)," the email message says. "Even the orange color of the image is reminiscent of a commonly used pro-life picture of early prenatal development."

And in case you're not getting the point, the email message spells it out in black and white: "Louisiana has 10 child-murder-by-abortion centers," the groups says, and "five are in New Orleans."

But why would God single out Louisiana? Other states have many more abortion clinics, and Louisiana and the other states hit hardest by Katrina all voted for the pro-life president of the United States. It didn't add up for us at first, but the Columbia Christians for Life have an answer for everything. God has already punished California with earthquakes, forest fires and mudslides; New York with 9/11; and Florida with Hurricanes Bonnie, Charley, Frances, Ivan, Jeanne and the early version of Katrina.
