REVIEW: M.I.K.E. @ Viva!!! (pg. 11)

All in all I thought this was a pretty solid event, as I have come to expect from Viva.

I enjoyed M.I.K.E.'s set, but thought it a lil progressive for me. I liked the end of his set better, and judging from the respose of the crowd so did they. Give me quality hard epic any day of the week!!!

One thing Id like to see different is Chiclet spinning at another slot. I got there nice and early, and got to hear some of her set, and that girl is off the hook. She scratched and did some breaking, it was eargasmic. It would be nice to see her on with a slot where the dance floor is a lil more lively. Shes honestly one of the better djs Ive heard in Toronto.

Progressive?? He was totally solid... the only thing you could have mistaken for prog was at the bginning of his set... which was more of an electro/trance. Not really a progressive set imo...

If you like Chiclet, come out to one of her resident nights... she has 4 hours to play with, and believe me... she really opens it up!!! Such a great night when she plays! But, you're right.. she's one of the better djs in TO!!! :)

MIKE said that he wanted to start things off a little bit "electro-y" because you dont want to get right into things off the bat, you've got to work the crowd up gradually.

Well, I guess I will tell you a little story. In the beginning of 2003, I went to see one of the promoters at the Guv, and he had no clue, who Mike was.He wanted Mike's press release, so I gave him Mike's website. Maybe, this contributed to Mike's arrival to Canada. I kept close contact with Stephan(Scannerboy) to try to get wheels in motion. You can thank me now. lol. haha. r.e.s.p.e.c.t.

Who was the promoter?

oops, then maybe it was the DJ before Tygon, they all looked alike in the dark?! :conf:

I think it was Key (sp?), but yea his set was solid.

Well I wouldn't quite call it Techno... more of a Tech-Trance... Not as hard as my usual style (which generally includes some Techno), as there were certainly some thick Trance melodies in the tracks I played.

However, Chiclet and Key were also playing some great Trance too... for a change, the progression from DJ to DJ was perfect to build up the night... well done by everyone!

Regardless, I'm glad you enjoyed the night! Nice to finally meet you!
