actually, they call it Urban.

it's not as if 'trance' has one specific musical meaning these days anyway. just because the uplifting/melodic type dominates the market, it doesn't make it synonymous with the name 'trance' itself; there are plenty of other styles around if you bother looking.

i'm presuming he means stuff like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...7647446-2248653

in which case r&b is a far more common term... well, in this country anyway.

Not sure who "they" are meant to be, but this the first thing that appears when you search for "RnB music" on Google.

http://www.thesituation.co.uk/usartists.html

Line 1: "Gucci Mane has been attacked in jail by a murderer who reportedly had an issue with the Atlanta based rapper."

Some really nice stuff in there (yes, I am aware of stuff pre-98, my brother got into the scene in the early nineties)

But what stuff do you mainly listen to from the past, say, 3 years?

Oh for 's sake. It's fun to generalise every single track in a genre kids! Watch:

Ever since 1996, house music has been a bar of someone else's music stolen and looped to death over a filtered beat. Since this is not what house music used to sound like, all house sucks! ALL OF IT.

Now excuse me while I make a crap analogy towards "the zone", when had I ever been in the ing zone I'd realise it has nothing to do with hypnosis, deprevation of emotions or any of that crap I just linked it to. Because it's actually a heightened state of awareness where you can make correct decisions very quickly due to adrenaline and such and such.

I'm sorry, but please tell me why a genre suddenly loses all merit because people have realised that hooks are a lot more interesting than endless bland acid loops. Tell me that "Twelve" by Tilt is big anthems, snare rolls and hooks, that it can't take your head someplace else, and that it has less merit than some tily produced German track from 1991. Go on. Say it and believe it.

Just out of curiosity (and I may possibly be turning this into an FAO Ishkur thread), but, Ishkur, what do you constitute as the last real "trance" set spun, and list any (if there are) djs/producers that still produce and mix this "real" trance you speak of. I'm not trying to sound sarcastic, though it may come out as such, just interested.
