Suddenly I realized the stupidity of long buildups (pg. 3)

I think one could make a full length ambient mix by mixing nothing but breakdowns of Planisphere tracks...

Good buildups = great trance (usually).

Ex: Fire & Ice - Out of Darkness
Agnelli & Nelson - El Nino

Two classics for ya...

the builds in Katana - Tribal Shock are huge!

also Plasticman - Spastik, this tune just builds and builds to nothing heh

oh yes. nye for example has a 4min breakdown or something. one other tune that comes to mind too is humate remix on schiller's das glockenspiel. i think that's around 4min also, if not more.

:)

Long 4 min breakdowns with no beats and gay female song about heaven and desire where people just wave their hands and looks in confused are more irritanting than crappy buildups.
thats for sure

There's a good track with a long buildup. Right around minute four the release finally comes. BREWDERDERDERRRDER. 'Tisn't buildups that are the problem, because music is all about tension and release. 'Tis long beatless breakdowns in Trance or any other kind of music that wasn't mean to have them.

That's the idea man. Trance isn't meant to appeal to the masses. For 8 years Trance has been a watered down version of itself, made to appeal to the masses by whatever it may be, breakdowns or other things. People as a whole don't appreciate subtlety and/or harshness in music. They require catchy lyrics and pretty jingle melodies. So that's what trance got, losing the subltety along the way and gaining overblown everything, including breakdowns. Now, with that in mind, eschewing the idea of "good" and "bad", at least old trance was actually trance, and not overblown pop music. Saying that it is better because of this is a very logical and reasonable thing to do. However, saying something is better because it "serves a purpose" or the equipment is "better" is stupid. Just because a lot of people like something doesn't mean it's good.

ok, so are u talking about long build ups as in how long the breakdown is, or how long it takes for the track to build up to climax?

cause if it is how long it takes for the track to build up this thread is plain stupid

i fail to see how long breakdowns in trance are a 'problem' when they've been part of the genre for over 8 years, and seen it go through strength to strength without any sign of falling yet. they've proven to appeal to the masses and i can't see them being phased out any time soon

and so long as long intense buildups have the desired effect on a crowd, they'll be around too, since that's pretty much the main reason they exist. i fail to see how they're 'stupid' for fulfilling a purpose.. but maybe that's just me

the best build-ups are ones where you don't realise it's a build-up, until it's almost built up.

then u realise you should be screaming ur face off. :)

The buildups in all the Gouryella singles is what defines a good buildup in a melodic trancer.
