Because it's not Electro, and it's not influenced by Electro. Callit Synthtron(:D) Or Electroclash if you absolutely have to. And not everything with a BUZZZING synth is Electroclash either. Some Funky House/French House has that BUZZY synth. I'm not primarily concerned with what it is, but what it isn't, and it isn't Electro.

but its not typical house or italo disco or synthpop either...its a new blending off the three.

Yeah that's right. Sure, it's slightly different, but it's still house. Hard House doesn't sound like Deep House, and Deep House doesn't sound like Disco House. But it's all House music. Just looked at what you typed. Italo and Synthpop fit very well UNDER the House genre umbrella. Now if this music is a fusion of a number of House subgenres, why should it be called Electro again?

i guess i don't see how it isn't in some way influenced by electro...

And I don't see how Techno isn't in some way influenced by african tribal drumming...what's your point? How exactly do you think it's influenced by Electro? Not the trademark buzzing synth, that's not a trademark of Electro.

if anything i think the samples you linked to show the similarities...

And how would that be?

Kr00t0n: Trance today at least comes from trance of the early 90's. Whether I like it now or not.

seriously...all this over how to call a genre of music? And youre saying to not call it Electro House when youre stating it sounds like house.. but then suggest we should call it Electroclash.
Im sorry should i understand this reasoning? or am i too ed up right now?

the answer to the second one is yes by the way.

Let me sum up what Tayfoon is trying to say...

1. He liked electro first.

2. Someone on the board said he was gay for liking electro.

3. Now everyone likes electro so he is no longer 1337.

4. He pissed that no one understands how cool he was for liking electro.

I said Synthtron first. Electroclash is a bad name, but if it comes down to it, the only reason that it's a bad name is because people have shortened it to "electro" over the years. The name in itself isn't implicit of any direct influence from Electro. Maybe the "electro" prefix in "electroclash" could stand for electronic music, or electronics, or something. But I said it was a horrible name. Then again, if you call it Synthtron, which is a better name, nobody will know what you're talking about. Yeah you're too ed up.

Emm...unless he was listening to Electro in 1995, Tayfoon and everyone else missed the bandwagon by some years...

hahaha well i kinda like synthtron...nice word haha. and i agree about french house and funky house and electroclash...they can all have the BUZZY synth.

and i completely agree that italo disco and synthpop fit under the house umbrella...i don't think there is any doubt about that. i think the biggest problem you have with the term Electro is that you think of it as the genre and not a description of the sound within a separate genre.

Indicators that the music you are listening to is Electro: Vocoders, Vocals talking about space or the future, beeps, zaps, lasers, broken beat, old yet new "feel".

now obviously we are agreeing that the primary genre it falls into is house. but if many songs have elements like the ones you listed above...can it not be said that perhaps those were somewhat influenced by the electro genre? just as you might say glitchy minimal techno is influenced by electro...wouldn't house with similar glitchy elements be influenced by electro?

i guess ultimately i've always just refered to it as electro house because its understandable by people. i'd have to say that most of what people think of as Electro House is really just Funky House. most people don't know the history of electronic music and you're right the term electro has become synonomous with the BUZZY sound, but i have always thought of the emphasis being on house and not electro...

:stongue: Kinda sounds like it.

Oh no! I missed the time when Al Jolson was underground, and now I'm just going to look like a bandwagon jumper! Woe is me!

I think of Electro as a subgenre within a genre of breakbeat. Or more accurately I just think of Electro as a style of Electronic Dance Music invented by Kraftwerk in the 1970's, perfected by black guys in NY, LA, and Miami in the 1980's, and carried on into the year 2005 by producers from around the world.

Which glitchy minimal techno artists cite Kraftwerk as their influence? Let me tell you this: Every Electro album I own, from 1990 to present, credits Kraftwerk in the liner notes/whatever. An artist who has never heard a single Electro track in his life could very well make music that's glitchy and bleepy. Those sounds are programmed into synthesizers, and you don't have to be an Electro head or influenced by Electro to discover them. Who does Felix Da Housecat thank on "Kittenz And Thee Glitz"? I'll bet not one Electro producer.

I held Dave Dresden in disdain long before any of you bandwagoners hopped on.

Its all about Telectro now anyways

true you're right. but can we say one way or another that the people making this music have never heard electro? and kraftwerk influence a lot of people in a lot of genres...

anyway, i see your points...and i think you're right. i like synthtron anyway so it's all good haha...
