This is why genres suck anyways. Evereyone claims to know what is what, when genre definitions are subjective.

i like it all except for trance. the only time i actually really liked trance was when i first came back from japan to the US in 99 and started doing "e" for the first time.

David Padilla's "In the Mix Vol. 2 Afterhours" cd was my first trance cd with songs such as "Secrets" by Viagra and other "trancey" tunes with breakdowns and buildups on it and i loved it..."Brainchild" was on that cd too. wow...old school.

anyway, my taste quickly progressed to breakbeats because some friends of mine introduced me to it...and then i discovered Tiesto & Sasha (i know i was way out of the loop being in japan...i didn't discover the big guys until like 2000/2001) and i started really liking "progressive". and now that house/electro is so huge, it's played in practically every club in miami and so naturally i hear it a lot and i really like it. i think it's like a natural order for some people. i think it's just a progression of someone's taste because a lot of the songs out today seem more complicated than the ones i listened to like 4 or 5 years ago. it's like an aquired taste/development.

i'm very picky about "trance". i was at a party on saturday for a guy's bday and he had the whole upstairs VIP for his party and his own dj and it was all trance. i mean, every now and then an OK song would come on, but i was clearly not enjoying myself there...so i walked across the street to crobar and met up with my friends and listened to ralph falcon throw down some good prog/house and the night wasn't so bad afterall.

i don't really judge ppl who like certain genres...i just like what i like and i have always had a very difficult time classifying songs or even my own taste. it's always hard to define because my taste is so versatile anyway...i love it all.

tiga, dj hell, italian x-rays?

dr.lektroluv, sven van hees
sven vath is kinda electro

tiga and dj hell isn't elektro
you can hear it really good if it's an electro track or not.
real electro sounds like old "sega 8-bit and nintendo-ish" tunes.
who cares if someone calls you fag for listening to electro, then that person is a narrowminded fool.
discussions about differents taste in music = plain dumb

so electro is the hype nowadays :)
damn I thought it was tech-trance, damn I was trying so hard to like it

exactly. once in a while, out of curiosity, i'll ask what genre someone thinks a song is, but really, i could give 2 s. the only thing i care about is knowing who the artist/track title is if i really like a song, so i can download it or buy it. i can't be bothered with arguing and knowing every little friggin thing about DJ's and what genre they spin, and bla bla bla bla:wtf:

i just like to listen to good music and have a good time:D

The only person who argued against me in this thread admitted that he doesn't know what is what, so what are you getting at exactly? If someone would like to sport their similar or greater knowledge of Electro, and maybe even Electronic music in general since the 70's(that would be neat), and prove me wrong, thereby validating your statement in some way, then let them come. So far I win.

This won't happen. Why you ask? People who know Electro since the 80's would agree with me. People who know what Electro is and how it has progressed since its inception would agree with me. The only people who don't agree with me are those who believe what music mags have incorrectly stamped on a form of music since 2001. People who think they're l33t for listening to "Electro" in 2000 or whatever when "nobody else" was. In other words, ignorant people. I don't know how else to put it.

My staement had nothing to do with anyone knowing what is what. The only thing I needed to validate my syatement was someone claiming they know what electro or any genre is, and you supplied that.

Genre defeninitions may exist with common factors between many different people, but when it comes down to it, those defenitions are subjective (different between each individual). One persons electro may be another person's synth pop; one person's trance may be another's house; one person's glam rock might be another's classic rock. This has nothing to do with the quality of the music.

Having genre definitions only helps facilitate conversation and discussion of music but it is not necessary. It exists to help expedite conversation as this example should show.
Person A: God, I love Tiesto
Person B: Really? What genre is he?
Person A: Trance.

Without genres, the question of what genre he is would have to be replaced with another statement, probably something like: 'What other artists is he like?'' On a personal level, I feel genre names were established to create some kind of social objectivity, but in the end the definitions of genres are just as subjective as asking what similar artists exist. Only a person with some kind of, by my defenition, improper attachment to music or genre would vehemently defend themselves and their stratifications when someone lists a song or artist with a certain genre that is not coherent with their own definitions.

As far as electreo goes, I wouldn't know if I was listening to what a 'purist' would call true 'electro' and I really don't care. All I need to know is that if I like a song, I will obtain it and listen to it again. If not, I will make no concious effort to experience it again, unless further prodded in the direction by a party with influence on me.

Short Version: You clearly misread my statement. If you have any desire to know what I was actually saying, read the long version of this post.

that'd be funny if i was like, "oh man have u heard that new rock song by fiddy?" (that's 50 cent for those of you who don't like hip hop:toothless )
