i was there, i drove all the way from melbourne to sydney to experience that, and oh my lord what an experience, was definitely well worth it, i cannot describe the feeling, i actually captured the uruguayan national anthem and the aussie national anthem, on my digi cam i recorded it i will upload it and link u guys so u can download it, and listen to just how hostile the aussie crowd was towards the uruguayans well deserved i must say.

The Uruguayans tried everything, kicking the players in the tunnel before the game, messy slide tackles, time wasting in the 1st 20 mins to try and gain ascendency over the aussies and take the crowd away, playing for free kicks, but none of it worked, they lost, they deserved to lose, and now they can go back to there country and dodge the bullets that will be shot in there direction.

for those of you that had groupings questions:

quote:

The green and gold euphoria sweeping Australia is unlikely to reach the austere FIFA offices in Zurich, with the three first-round matches to be announced on December 9, when officials will come up with the eight groupings for the glittering event.

The sponsorship dollars and massive television revenue from Europe and the US are likely to hold sway over the sentimental value of a nation making it to the finals for the first time in 32 years.

But all that mattered little to Guus Hiddink and his heroes, who were feted all over Sydney yesterday. The Dutch supercoach, his tongue firmly planted in his cheek, said his team can go \"all the way\" in Germany.

\"What we achieved (on Wednesday) was something very special,\" Hiddink said.

\"I've had the beautiful experience of being at two World Cups (with The Netherlands and South Korea).

\"I am very proud of all the boys. I am just as proud of the medical and technical support stuff and to the people who helped make this happen.

\"I had to adapt myself to the players' attitude and get used to their mentality and them to me. Today, we come together in celebration of a truly huge performance.\"

But the real world awaits once the hangover starts to fade.
Under the formula used at the 2002 finals in South Korea and Japan, the 54th-ranked Australia could find itself in a group with three nations proven on the world stage.

Incredulously, FIFA refuses to reveal the criteria it will use to seed teams for Germany, a spokesman saying the seedings would be decided by a sub-committee on December 6.

The top eight seeds each go into a separate group.

The fact is, by winning through to Germany, the Socceroos - who have had so many obstacles thrown in their path on the qualification road - are now open to the political machinations of FIFA.

By keeping the draw process so closely guarded, FIFA leaves itself open to allegations of manipulation to minimise the risk of powerful teams from facing each other too early in the tournament.

For the 2002 World Cup, seedings were decided by a combination of a team's performance in the three previous World Cup finals - a non-factor for Australia - and an average of their FIFA ranking at the end of the previous three years.

Australia is the second lowest-ranked of the 32 countries to have qualified for the World Cup, with Angola (60) the worst.

The fact there are so many new teams without lengthy footballing bloodlines, officials will be desperate for many of the \"big\" nations to do better than they did in Japan and South Korea.

It is conceivable the top eight seeds will be Germany and Brazil - which automatically get a seed as host and champion, respectively - followed by the Netherlands (ranked 2nd), Czech Republic (3rd), Argentina (4th), France (5th), Mexico (6th) and Spain (8th).

The scenario would be further complicated if FIFA decides to give 2002 quarter-finalist the US - with its preposterously high world ranking of seven and, of course, all those television and advertising dollars - a top seeding, thus affording the Americans an excellent chance of advancing to the second stage.

Promoting the US would potentially drop Spain into the second pod, along with England, Portugal and Italy.

The third group could be the four Asian teams - Japan, South Korea, Iran and Saudi Arabia - with the two remaining South American nations, Paraguay and Ecuador.

Australia may end up in the fourth pod with the lowest-ranked nations, the five from Africa, as well as the two other North and Central American countries, Costa Rica and Dwight Yorke's Trinidad and Tobago.

That would be the worst-case scenario for the Socceroos, as they could potentially find themselves in a group with teams such as Brazil, Portugal and Paraguay.

None of this is to say an inspirational run in Germany is beyond Hiddink's team.

Four years ago we saw minnows swallow whales; Senegal upset then world champion France, the US was unlucky to lose 1-0 against Germany in a quarter-final, and Hiddink's unheralded South Korea overcame Italy, Portugal and Spain to reach the final four.

And, certainly, the Australians must feel like they're bulletproof.

\"We're not going to go there just to make up the numbers,\" Socceroos captain Mark Viduka vowed.

\"I think we've got this inner confidence now. We've had 30 years of bad luck or whatever you want to call it, not being able to qualify. Now we have qualified, the sky is the limit.\"

Without question, the Socceroos will get better as they grasp the intricacies of Hiddink's system. It is clear that, under the cosh, some of the players resort to playing the English-style long ball, which Hiddink loathes.

Harry Kewell and Tim Cahill, in particular, play a very English brand of football and are not as comfortable with the quick-passing, possession game as, say, Vince Grella or, especially, Jason Culina, who in the two matches against Uruguay showed why Hiddink was so keen to get him to PSV Eindhoven.

Viduka said a month-long camp with Hiddink would take the team to another level.

\"I'll tell you if we get four weeks together we're going to be flying,\" he said.

\"Just to be a part of the team that's going to roll up to Germany to wear the green and gold and mix it with the best, and not just mix it but I think compete, is amazing.\"

Cahill also said Australia should go to Germany not fearing anyone, no matter history or reputation.

\"We've got no one to fear, why should we fear anyone?\" Cahill said.

\"We've definitely got a great squad of players who play all over Europe, a great manager, great staff, we've just got to take advantage of it and mix it with the best.
