I started with a 4 hour train ride to Toronto...then hopped on a 45min bus ride back to Hamilton (after Josh picked me up from the train station and we met with Spitty and Chris). Laura picked us up from the bus station and we began our trek to New York at about 1:15 in the morning. Got there around 9:30 - thanks everyone that gave us directions!
We got to Fran's, and unloaded our bags. He had some work to do, so we decided to go exploring. We walked like 50 miles or something...but it didn't actually seem that long. We saw a bunch of sights...took tons of pictures - which will all be up soon! And just had a great time exploring the city.
Afterwards we relaxed for a bit, before it was time to start the partying! Yankeebaby met up with us (great to see you again baby!), as well as Your Mother (who is actually a native of Windsor!) and his gf. We headed over to Roxy, and after a bit of confusion with the tickets we managed to get in alright.
The club itself was awesome. It was pretty big and had a really nice set up. I also liked how you could be like 10 feet away from the DJ...if that! There were 3 big video screens on each side of the booth, and if you wanted to hang out behind them and dance you literally could just walk up and shake the DJs hand. Not to mention, there was so much room all around the front! Nada you would have been SO happy! Okay...well maybe not RIGHT in the front. But from where I was dancing all night, I was pretty close, and I didn't have too many problems with people getting in my way.
As for tunes...many of them have already been mentioned. Lyteo & Summer dream were definatly two of my favorites. Say Hello - I told Laura she had to take a video of me and Spitty dancing for you Nada. She told me that he probably wouldn't play it...and sure enough he did! I think he did it purposely for you I can't wait to show you the video. And yes, as Kelly said...we represented you quite well...a lot of "this is for Nada"'s!
One thing I didn't like though...Josh and I recall there being a couple weak spots in his set. For the most part it was great, but there were two times where we just looked at each other and were like "c'mon paul...pick it up a bit" and sure enough he did and we danced away saying "now THAT'S more like it! That's the paul I've come to know and love!"
It was great to meet a lot of you NYC TAs...dirtydave (we had a nice talk about how awesome the edm scene was haha), photoaddict, your mother, pvdobsession, verndog, colibri, avikonen (of course)...and I'm sure there were others! Hope to see some of you guys soon!
Thanks again to Fran for his genourous hospitality...to Laura for making me go and spotting me all that money...and to all the TAs for making it an awesome trip! One of the best decisions I've ever made!
P.S. Pics and vids soon
P.P.S. I introduced a lot of you to my friend Kelly (not Yankeebaby). She's from Windsor, but has recently moved to New York for school. I helped get her into the EDM scene right before she moved, and she's been trying to get into it more in New York. I hope you guys take good care of her. There's a Welcome thread for her in the TOTA boards. Her nick is KellyBelly! |
b/c i'm too lazy to write a review...
+1

Marco V- I Feel You (PvD Mix) |
when? |
I think he confused that with Heppner & Shiller - I feel you.
I still maintain that he played Wavy Gravy, but I am probably wrong. This would have been ~2am. |

Hm. sorry, I'm just a bit ticked off... hate the feeling of sweaty slimy body of someone I don't know being smothered all over me. I didn't see nearly as many meatheads halfnaked as I saw asians - hence my generalization. sorry. |
all good. but i definitely agree with you and definitely feel you on that. i hate that stuff too. i hate trying to walk by someone and having their greasy bodies rub up on my clothes. i feel like i need to disinfect myself afterwards.
here is my story. i was in the bathroom and this barbie doll looking fob guy is behind me asking me if the cold water feels good. :nervous: uhhh....of course it does then i ran out of there only to bump into more shirtless dudes. i was in a nightmare at one point. |

OMG
What a freakin birthday, now I don't know PvD from the 2002/2003 era but god damn I think friday night was what it was like. Reddog, Dummerboy, NY1004 and I walked in around 1 AM, seems we were some of the last people to get in. Was already wasted from the pre-game at my place but that went out the door the second I walked in and sweat came pouring down my face, but I didn't care, the screens, the lazers and dear god the crowd, the wonderful crowd on the floor hands in the air, I felt like it was how you alwas want a club to be when you walk in. Checked the coat and then we were off. Onto the dancefloor and saw everyone, DirtyDave, Sunshine78, Jay, Joe, everyone. Everyone in good spirits, the club was packed and the vibe was great. The music, damn could it ever stop, just one good thing after another. PvD lovin the crowd, I wanted him to jump in and dance with us (maybe next time ;) ) It was hot and swaety and dirty and I loved it. I went for my birthday and damn what a birthday, if every year could be like that. Thanks to PvD for the wonderful birthday present. Thank you to EVERYONE in Roxy that wished me a happy birthday, people were freakin jump over othr people to come up to me to say it. To my after-party buddies....Jay was classic and Mike and Joe you guys made the end of the night just as good as the rest of it. Crashed at 2PM Saturday afternoon and woke up again at 5AM Sunday morning. This for sure we be a night I will always talk about!!!!

Blake: I think I saw you at the bar but I wasn't sure if it was you so I didn't say anything :whip: . I was the girl in the black shirt with the lovely "Happy Birthday" crown. Maybe you saw me!!!! |

um... there's more to djing than playing one melodic trance track after another. i really appreciate the fact that pvd switches up styles so much. i mean, even armin recently has been trying to bring in some variety to his sets. if you ever listen to any pvd interview or read his conversations he always stresses that he is an "EDM" dj, not a trance dj, because he never simply spins just trance. thats just not his style. |
dont get me wrong...the stuff on the more eclectic side is good. for me though there's what i like to hear when i am listening to trance at home, and then then what i want to hear when i go out to the club and am going to stay up all night dancing. also i think that when i got into pvd a couple of years ago, along with the state of trance music then, pvd's style was more focused on melodic stuff. that's what i miss.
he has moved away from playing a lot of the trance i spoke of (and some other stuff) in his sets to a wide variety these days it seems. so i wont bash him because i do respect him as a dj, but at the same time i wont share everyeone's opinion as to how great his set was friday because i just dont feel that way either.
i think perhaps it's me just not being that willing to have my tastes evolve along with his current style. |

it was one of those nights where nothing went wrong... got a ride, easy free parking, NO LINE, not AS crowded as we expected... saw many surprise faces, met some more new ppl, bumped into some old school ppl... and of course, pvd's set...
he also dropped Coast2Coast Cut Me but Luminary Amsterdam was the highlight for me :) |
such a trance whore - stop trainspotting geez |

This blew my mind when he played it at summerstage. It was just too perfect ... right after sunset, the lasers were just coming on, in the open air.
But the song was very familiar. Did he play it in NYC any time before that? |
