Philosophical sophistry is the last refuge of poeple who have no way of proving what they state. We are not talking morals here. You have already made a judgement of what i think and how i think, without knowing one thing about me or my mindset. This is a good way of proving your point by demagoguing the person you are responding to.i'm not looking for studies i'm looking for an instance where your notion would be applicable, barring a selfish circumstance. you are a classic moral relativist, lotsa "big" words and names and no substance, i hope you're a teacher and not scientist or engineer cause i would never want to drive over your relativistic bridge...

Your words betray you. The combative language you employ give away the reality that you are a competative person, rather then talking you joust with words. Moreover, your response, which takes the tone of an attack or at best an attempt to besmirch, is further evidence that my judgement of you was correct.
You stated you were looking for emphirical evidence. I regret to advise you that evidence can only be emphirical if it can be documented tested and replicated. In order to be accepted as emphirical most reasonable persons would look to a schollerly study to verify the data. You say you would like an instance where my notion would be applicable but you do not want antecdotal evidence, I'm sorry to advise you that your request is unrealizable as any evidence I could offer would be antecdotal as I have not completed or know of any STUDY that could provide emphirical evidence. I'm not sure you trully understand what it is you are saying, perhaps you should employ more basic terms soas not to confuse yourself.
BTW, a moral relativist would believe that there is no morality. I have never made such a statement, I simply stated I do not subscribe to the prevailing morality of western society. Read better please. |

And i've met a lot of christians who don't believe in the "turn the other cheek" ideaology, and a couple who do.
WOuld i tell somebody to go to the US to see what this ideology is like in practice? |

Maybe you want to learn how to spell empirical.
Listen show me any evidence, stop trying to play with my words, at first i said i dont want anecdotal, you made an excuse, then i said show me one instance, these are discrete questions from separate posts, all i am learning from you is that you have the gift of twisting words and not answering questions. I don't need you to explain to me the definition of anecdotal evidence.
BTW you can't back up your statement that i am hostile, when you were the one that fired the first shot, you start i end, very simple. So your conclusion is flawed. I am hostile to your condescending tone, and your projection of being an arbiter without any evidence. And you didn't simply state anything, show me where you said that "you do not subscribe to the prevailing morality of western society". I must have missed that one

And btw i live in NYC so yes i am competitive. I didn't realize that being competitive somehow excluded me from being altruistic, but i guess if a scholarly article says it, it must be true. I can find you millions of scholarly articles that were once believed to be true but since have been proven false. I guarantee i can find a situation where you are competitive, especially if your life is in danger.

So what you are telling me is that I was right regarding your competitive nature. Good to know. A great deal of my job is understanding people, what motivates them, and how they think. The language one employs is a great indicator of this, that is what I based my judgement on. Additionally, as a competitive person you understand lieing only in the context of competition, if you were an alturistic person you would understand it in those terms. I would not go so far as to say you completely lack alturism, however, it is not a dominate aspect of your personality.
BTW, I am extremely competative, my own behaviour in our little discussion is evidence of that. |

As i said you will never be my arbiter, if you think you can devine who I am from 5 posts then more power to you, but you're fooling yourself. I think one can be competitive in situations and altruistic in others, its part of having a dynamic personality and having introspect.
