i think ive got a solution for you... although it may not be feasible...
try and find someone who knows how to use lights... and he will do a light show while you provide the music
and if not.... well... depending on how much time you have, MAYBE you could get some lights and get a friend to teach him or herself how to use them half decently
play adagio for strings for the intro, and when the kick/beat drops, have the lights show go... would be wild
the reason i brought this up is b/c some kid did a light show at my old highschool... and he played trance, but no dj
hopefully that might work out for you |

OR, you could get some dancing people with glow sticks to some sort of choreographed dance....
2 be honest the light show would be cooler
but you need to get something else as a visual to divert the attention from just you playing music... you will get your credit for sure.. but you need to decrease the awkwardness level
you could even prepare trippy visuals and put them on a projector screen and just say this was your audio visual entertainment talent
and then explain you would be mixing the music live
etc etc |

That is a pretty awsome idea if i wanna get the attention of the girls...hehe...ill keep that in mind...:stongue: |
That's ing lame. :whip: |

i know thas lame...i was just kiddin when i said i would keep it in mind
I thought bout the light show and visuals b4....it is smthng thatll surely catch their attention...but i dont know if my school really has any fancy lightings like with the different colors and stuff....and bout the visuals...i was thinkin of presentin a flash presentation of what a mix is and show video clips of djs in action while i provide with the music....theyll see the lightin and whatnot on the screen and itll just keep their eyes occupied on the projector and not totally on me
what do u think? |

change months to years then you might be ready for a show but like others have said, 99% of the peoplei n the audience arent going to have a clue as to what you're doing behind the decks. They know nothing beyond scratching and if they dont hear you do a scratch, they wont think you're doing anything. They dont think there is skill involved in DJing so.. yeah.
You made a reference to people playing guitars... theres a big difference. you're playing other peoples music. the music is already done. you're just matching beats and trying to go from one song to another without it sounding like . we all know its cool but anyone in the audience is gonna be like... "that doesnt take skill!"
honestly dude, i respect your courage but theres a good amount of ignorance just radiating from your posts. as fun as it would be to you, if you're doing it for a talent show to a bunch of high schoolers, you're not going to generate much of a positive response.
lastly, please stop typing like a 12 year old girl.

i think this is a very bad idea as most normal people don't understand what's so special in what you're doing and they don't notice the tracks changing. just the other night i had a house party with some of my friends over. this one guy looked at my dj setup and was totally: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: going "wtf mate, you bought 2 cd players?!?!!! why wouldn't one be enough?!?!" then i proceeded to tell him what they're for, then he thought they were some synth or something you could use to create music. i said they're nothing like that. so then he was even more: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: "you can't create music with these? just play? and you bought 2 cd players and a mixer just to play music? so what if you can mix them on top of each other for a while?" and he's just a normal guy, not some retard who doesn't understand anything.
all i have to say is: "don't ing do it!"
but if you do make someone film it and post it here, cuz i wanna see the vid and especially the crowd reaction. |

lol
i had the same reaction when i first bought the techs and mixer.
Some family freinds came over and they looked at it and were like "so u use this to make music?" i was like no its to mix and they had no clue what im talkin bout "WTH is a mix?"
everyone who has no idea bout djin thought i used those to compose music
the funniest thing was when i first brought the turntable at home. My mom looked at it and saw some chinese writing on the manuals...and shes like "why the hell did u buy chinese stuff...it wont last u a month"...the irony is that this was the techs...known best for its reliability and performance :haha:
i wasnt goin to the talent to really show them how i mix...the intention i had in mind was to introduce them to a new genre of music which most of them judge in a wrong way.
when i tell them i listen to trance....they think...is that like the remix of "mortal combat?":wtf: |

I highly doubt a talent show is the best place to do this...
I wish you the best of luck if you choose to go ahead and do this, but be aware that the odds are stacked against you, and people will likely maintain their negative attitudes regarding this music, as a talent show is not exactly a personal way of introducing this music to anyone... |

get some good prog/trance breaks or some good breaks remixes, and learn how to do some scratching. doesnt have to be any ridiculous crabbing, but some transform/orbits/simple cutting with xfader and it can sound really sick. plus, if youre scratchin to some good tunes, you can introduce them to the genre while pandering to what they know, and most likely theyll be impressed. good luck

Probably best idea because people associate turntables with scratching so they'll be expecting to see that rather than mixing. |
