it mite b the only set i ever play for a crowd....even if it goes bizarre
i chekd the list today to see who signed up for what....so far thres two slots taken. one band and another singing
but u know its not bout me playin 3 or 4 songs...i wanna play some really nice tunes...like crazy melody and bangin stuff! not the cheesy stuff or slow trance thas gonna bore em all to death. If i had FS...i could just download some good stuff and spin those...but too bad im stuck with vinyls....none of em r that bangin...except Faithless - Bring my family back (pvd remix)...but thas not exactly what im leanin towards.
hmm..:conf: |

Well, crazy melody and banging stuff you should play! When that is said, I would have played some hardstyle. Like Dj Zany - science & religion (science mix) or (Qlimax anthem 2005)
That song, IMO, has a crazy melody and some really banging stuff!
When i first heard hardstyle, it made a larger impression on me then ordinary trance.
I do hope, if you decide to do it, that you have something to draw attention to. Like some simple lights, or even a primitive laser. At least get hold of a projector where you could show a movie from a large event. I think that would make the crowd fall in love with the genre (and maybe you! Then you could play at loads of parties)
This is just my opinion; you must ultimatly decide what is best for you. |

Hey man I'd just like to tell you I was spinning in a similar scenario. It was a school Pep Rally I got to play for the intro until all 500 people eventually got into the bleachers. This gave me about 20 min to spin. I understood that people might not accept trance, but just like you, I was trying to show the school what the meaning of trance really is. I played 5 tracks, by Ferry (Punk), Active Sight (Out of Our Lives), PVD(Binary Finary),Armin (Communication), and Tiesto (Viagra) to finish it off.
I was keeping the mixing simple, since it was my first time playing out, and it was even more intimidating playing infront of a few hundred, most of whom have no clue wtf trance is all about. I just looped a phase at the beginning of the cued track, beat matched it, dropped the base of the first track, then mixed. Surprisingly people came up to me and were asking me waht tracks those were, some guy came up and asked me if i played a tiesto set, which made me feel pissed, but good at the same time, since i guess generally my mixing was on fire that day, I was caught up in the atmosphere, and I blazed a spliff at lunch about half an hour b 4 i spun, which made things more intense.
I think u shud play what the hell you want, and if you are a true artist, then self expression should be one of ur traits. After all, djing should be about the music, and If people give u about mixing at the talent show tell them to go fu*k themselves honestly. |

Well,
play wat u love...
once ur out of time, or if the response is horrible, then just play RnB/Hip-Hop off an MP3 player, under the table, and use the extra 3-4 turntables that u borrowed off friends to look cool. And just work the mixer like a madman, even if ur not doing anything. |

turn that up real loud and then you will have their attention. shake the whole f'n building till the windows shatter!! i read most of your posts... my only advice is to make sure you have some good speakers that can bump and/or make sure the is loud enough to travel through their bodies...

Listen man when ur gig does come up tell me how it goes. I was fearful of rejection, but I wasnt gunna let that get in the way of playing in front of a few hundred and gettin my name out there. Trust me ull get respect as a dj.
P.S. Used to live in Sauga, moved to the middle east four years ago. Good Djing oppurtunities for house parties...We buy cheap booze from the docks, charge an entrance of around 15 canadian, and we make enuff profit if 100 or so come, so i can make more than a hundred bucks canadian at a house party. We throw these once a month. I wanted to ask you (Since im coming to uni in toronto next year) how is the dj industry there? |
