And thats a good thing? Don't you want your doctor to understand what you're saying? No matter what your counter-argument is, no person can learn a language and all its intricacies if they come here after medical school (meaning they are at least around 25 years of age). You have to learn a language while you are still young to learn it perfectly.

That's not even saying anything about the calibre of overseas medical institutions.

Harper is a sleazebag like the rest of them, all he wants is votes.

Ok so why do we demand that immigrants have very high skill, training and expertise when they apply overseas and once they arrive they are told "sorry you arent good enough, go drive a cab".

Thats just not right and ive seen this happen to a good friend of mine who came here from argentina as a teacher. There should be a way to evaluate the degrees and experience one has in a profession and easy ways to upgrade if needed. Or else we shouldnt demand these skills of people only to let them down when they get here.

Many doctors, teachers etc that arrive here have better education than canadian trained professionals. Of course some dont. But thats why we need evaluation instead of just slamming the door in people's faces.

I know where you're coming from man..

My sis got into some med trouble a couple of weeks ago.. She was laying on the hospital chairs (in the ER) for 2.5 hours, writhing in pain, before they faking admitted her.

Top that up, the doc didn't diagnose her right, so by 6 in the morning the following day, we were back in the same damn place. And guess what, ANOTHER FACKING 1.5 HOURS OF WAIT. Still writhing in pain (the painkillers wore off). Still the same from the nurses. The argument that she was at this exact place 3 hours ago didn't phase 'em.

That day, I was angry...

Canadian hospitals suck. We do need a better system for evaluating the professional level of doctors/teachers/engineers coming into Canada. This is coming from a guy whose parents are a) doctor b) nuclear engineer

You should ask the government those questions. All I know, is I don't want to be treated by someone who only understands 75% of what I'm saying or even 95%.

hey id imagine there are many doctors in quebec who's first language isnt english. darkwater was tryng to infer in his xenophobic rants about doctors not knowing english.

My comment was a rather smart jab at him by using the fact that there are many "canadian" home grown doctors who also dont speak english as a first language, namely those in quebec.
