Posting Live Sets for DL on TOTA - Comment/Feedback

It is very generous of people to share live sets they have found - but some days it seems to be out of hand i.e. 3 or 4 threads in a single day simply to post only a link to download the set and a track list.
For example on the FIRST PAGE of TOTA (25 threads per page – 12.25.05 @ 23:00):

I don't mean to single anybody out in the above thread references - they were just used as examples.
Not including the "Merry Christmas" or "For those who don't celebrate Christmas" thread (which are seasonal) - Live Set Download Threads consume 20% of the first page of threads.
I appreciate the sharing of sets just as much as the other guy - but seriously, the trend of posting a single thread to share a single track list and single live set download (usually available via other sources) isn't exactly efficient. Scrolling through pages where 15% to 20% of the posts are to share a single live set doesn’t make sense.
I haven’t considered everything so I may very well be wrong with my conclusion – but it does not make sense to post a new thread just to share a track list/download URL. If you believe I am wrong - please help me out by explaining why a significant amount of a message board’s viewable threads should consist of live-set download URL a track list (with very little content beyond the actual download URL and track list).
I wouldn’t mind the threads as much of the thread starter had something more to post than a download URL, track list and “wicked set” comment.
HOWEVER - a post with some sort of significant review, feedback, history, story, information to go with the set totally validates the reason for a new thread.
IMO – A thread with a download URL and track list (with no further content / information by the thread starter) is pretty much useless – that type of information is for torrent boards or file sharing boards – TOTA is more than that.
If someone has a URL / track list to post and that is the extent of their desire to make a post/share information - then why not create a stickied thread for posts of ~only~ URLs / track lists (and no further comments, information, etc)? |

well i do agree with you to an extent RJ. the thread in my opinon for the sets are made for the significant review and / or story or comments of listeners on TOTA. i cant tell everyone to post a review cos thats their liking. if they just choose to post thank you then hey so be it.
as for posts on first page then lets say i am away from tota for 5 days in those 5 days there were 5 sets posted by 5 different ppl. now thats one set a day by one person. when i come back and scroll through tota i see those 5 sets and i really like them and i post in them and now suddenly u have 5 threads on first page with the sets and so on.
what do u suggest here? do u think we shud make one official download thread and just post everything in it? whats your opinion? |

sure.
I kinda disagree:
First, it's easier to find the thread where a set was posted if you weren't able to grab it right away. I imagine going back trying to find the link amidst the myriad of comments in one thread will be much harder.
Second, in one thread, the comments will get confusing as people comment not only to the last set posted but to the previous ones as well.
Third, by your same argument we could stick all the welcome and birthday threads into their respective mega-threads as well. |

Personally:
I agree with the sharing of pre-recorded (non-commercial) live sets (good or bad) via any sharing methodology (torrent, web download services, etc).
I agree with letting people on TOTA know about live sets and how to download them.
I disagree with posting a new thread simply to publicize a set’s track list and download instructions.
I agree with posting informed, useful, worthwhile and interesting reviews of live sets (and if they include a track list and download instructions – even better).
I disagree that posting a track list and download information for a set is an effective means of “soliciting” feedback from others.
I agree that users should use the search function to find information they want (in threads and forums). |

Posting of download links in the tracklisting forum is no longer permited, unless it is straight from the source(dj page, or radio station). So for those of us, who are sharing our own bandwidth, it is not possible. |

RJ, you made your point. Now you are just punishing those who arent even posting sets.
Pretty immature if ask me. You made a thread about it, and then people were not agreeing with you, so you force your point further. What purpose does this thread even serve? Are you willing to listen to other opinions? |

The replies in the download/track list threads are not the issue - the starting of a thread to simply share a download/track list (with no further value ad) is.
Posting replies in a download/track list thread is no different than any other thread. |

Of course it is not the issue, nobody is saying that the replies are. The thread starters are problem in your opinion. By posting a comment in each specific download thread, you drew attention to the fact that each thread further clutters the main page.
My point is, that you did not have to go and bring every one of those threads to the top of the forum by posting in them. We can all see what your point is. You just helped to further clutter the page, by reviving threads which were already on their way down and out.
Did you think that simply posting the sets themslves was the value? The fact that people may not have been aware that these sets were available, or where to get them? Most people here do not constantly download sets, and may need some help. The attention and delivery is the value added imo.
For the record, i agree with you, i wish we could get a sticky. |

2 Cents here
1) We do have a thread for downloads of sets, the only problem with that is its not updated properly or timely. (i love the idea but its also outdated del) ~side note, when "non-Big" names post, they get removed, so the "big names" should be the same. Maybe an alternative thought (or side-site/thread) is approperate.
2) Stations like 2hp.ca and ETN.fm are GREAT sources for new music, why not tune into those instead of downloading; in regards to those, to hear the latest stuff from the "big names" maybe have an upcomming option
2b) Etn has a great bittorrent format
2c) LOCAL MUSIC IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING OF ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! remember that and support locally, buy those sets from names like Jelo, MO and Rosati. Its the only reason that TO is one of hte best cities in the world for EDM.
