I can't help but laugh at people who think they get some superb Japanese build-quality on these cars when they are made right here in Ontario.

Golf and Jetta AMD ESPECIALLY MINI drivers think they're driving F1 cars, many tailgate and zigzag (my brother is one of them)... like wtf relax. Every single Mini driver has been a dick to my experience.

Echo/Corolla/Smart are the worst friggin drivers/cars to follow, they drive always too slow compared to traffic and if there's a bit of a slope, watch them crawl because their cars can't take it anymore (at 70kmh).

thanks captain obvious. My car was built in Ohio. So what. She said she wanted Japanese...ie: japanese manufacturer...not a purely built in Japan car. They still last and perform much better then their american competition, so something has to be working right.

that said, both those cars are the 2 she should be checking out.

I agree with what you said except this. NO CARS struggle on little slopes anymore..... unless you are in a FIREFLY. NOW thats a car that struggles , at anything.

Your best bet is a COROLLA OR CIVIC. If you can spring for the new 05 civic that would be the best. Great looking, great gas mileage, more power etc etc etc.

Ive had my 00 Civic SiR for 6 years now. Beat the living out of it. It just keeps begging for more.(Ive had an assortment of mods on it aswell) Its a great car. Looks the best out of any civic yet too.(the new ones are nice though. both much nicer then the 01-04, no offence.)

The focus is kinda nice, but gets worse mileage and they DID have fuel/FIRE problems.

VW has nice interiors..., but thats about it. The TDI does get great mileage but polutes more then a gas motor and as said, youll MOST LIKELY have issues with it. lol coilpacks, window regulators etc.

as for winter safety. WINTER TIRES(like most have said). Get a set.

so, corolla or civic..go test drive em and pick the one you like best. I prefer the civic(especially the new one).

DO NOT GET A FOCUS!!! if you want to go compact, get an import.

test drive the cars you like. go to a "real" dealership, not a "Honest Jim's Used Cars" lot.

Best thing to try.. make a list of cars your interested in. call up your insurance and get a quote for each car. Civic's will be more expensive than Toyota's.

Subaru's - nice cars, but tend to be pigs on gas. Although the 4 wheel drive comes in handy. (good ins prices)

VW's - crap shoot: sometimes you get a good car that lasts long w/o problems.

My opinion for import (although belive it's built somewhere in Can/US) - Toyota Corolla (overloaded with options!)

an option (just if you want to compare $$$) 01-04 Chev Malibu. mid siz, decent power & options, reliable(3.1 v6). Low insurance!!!

Figure out how much you want to spend on insurance, then go for the car.

you may pay a more for a car you get from a dealership, but if you get an off-lease, or a genuine dealer serviced car you can get a maintenance log to know the car was properly taken care of. (you usually get this car afer old people have used it)

cheers

dude there's this little slope when the 720 to 15 ramp/merge, and its always one of these named car that cause a friggin major slowdown... people are so frustrated that they beam/honk/pass by double plain lines etc etc... creates lots of frustration and stupid reactions.

I vote for banning these micro cars from the roads :p

I've seen Smarts on the autobahn do quite nicely - keeping up with traffic and everyhting. It's just people are very afraid of the redline for some reason. When my mom gasses the Protege too much at it revs to like 5000 rpm, she freaks the out. Anyway, my point is, in a Smart, just keep your foot heavy and you should be able to keep up.

yes another brainwashed kid...

focus are the most equipped for less, roomier, more powerful and are very reliable.

Plus it looks better than all these imports (except civic06)
VERTiG0
CPO (Certified Pre-Owned).

The way to do things.

BTW, someone mentioned it already, but I think I'll reiterate:

well, you don't see this on roads...

plus if it snows a bit, god forbid we're in canada, it'll get stuck because its so low.

funny story, there was a huge snowstorm in december with 42 cms (record), there was a huge huge traffic because people were watching a smart being pushed by some people on the highway... for some reason the guy drove on the side where there was more snow and the wheels lost touch with the ground... i pointed, laughed and drove away.
