Just a thought to those of you who think Jack Bauer will be playing a reduced role in upcoming seasons: There's no way Fox would pay Sutherland the kind of money they're giving him and NOT have him be the main character.
The entire franchise is built around Jack Bauer - There's no way he's going to be taking a significantly reduced role.
Jack Bauer takes a back seat to no man. |

:haha:
Seriously though, does anyone really think that the next season really won't have something to do with Jack escaping from China or showcase him in some other fashion? The acting portion of his contract alone is speculated to be around $40 million - I can't see spending $40 million bucks on a face (And let's face it, Sutherlands creative input is likely to be very limited, and his ability to play "Jack Bauer" is really what he's making the money for) to have it not be the focal point.
But who knows... Fox is owned by Rupert Murdoch - And there's no telling what that crazy ****** will shell out cash for. I just don't see Fox flushing one of the highest rated series on television down the toilet, which is exactly what they'd be doing if they didn't have Jack come back. |

| All i have to say is if they start next season and it has nothing to do with Jack breaking out from the chinese, Ill be pissed. Like if they pull a joke like "remember the time I got kidnapped by the chinese and shipped to china...hahah that was funny" Ill shoot my tv. |

Yes, like Cloney on E.R., Sutherland IS 24. They can't have the show without him. After he finally leaves they may keep it around for a while but it wont be the same show.
Anyway, unless they change the format I predict a drop in viewership starting next season. Its just the same stuff over again, I mean how many times can this man save the country? They're also running out of terrorist stereotypes. |
Agreed - Though if they do it right, I think they could make a day out of Jack getting out of China, which I think could possibly resolve a couple complaints that seem universal among 24 fans:
- Why does this always happen in LA?
- How can the series escape the "plan started by disgruntled foreigners turns into a mass Washington/US govt conspiracy" mold the show has adhered to since it's inception.
And in this case, if the show innovates enough to keep it's already massive viewer base in tact, it could perhaps avoid such a drop in viewership.
As someone else said earlier, season six could be 24 meets Prison Break... :) |

Yeah at this point its clear 24 should not be taken seriously. While the show may parallel present realities in some way it should not be confused as being realistic.
I mean take the 24 world up to this point. In the past, what, 5-6 years there have been numerous terrorist attacks, several Presidential scandals, a President has been assasinated, TWO nuclear explosions on American soil, martial law, and what else? |
There was only 1 nuke that was detonated. There was also the nerve gas and the disease in the hotel. Not to mention they killed Tony and Michelle. |

at the same time, that's the whole reason, every single show or 'drama' we're watching is meant to be exagerrated in some way or another. It wouldn't be an interesting "24 hours" for example if they did a show on any one of us & we spent 7 of those fast asleep etc... The success comes from the fact that the great acting & characters we can associate with allow us to live the show ourselves, in a mild manner, and it provokes thoughts |

Did anyone else catch the scene when the show finally pushed back at the whole "characters dont go to the bathroom" thing?
*Chloe coming out of the bathroom*
"What were you doing?"
Chloe: "Are you kidding? If you really want to know I'll write you a report!" |
In one of the previous seasons, the black woman went to the toilet to divulge information to the bad guys, I think season 4. But it's rarely shown, but the timings allow for it to 'happen' but us obviously to not be aware of it. Personally though, as a believer in sleep, a whole 24 hours being beaten, shot at, kidnapped, suffering, and all the stuff that goes on, I'd probably die from exhaustion at hour 19 |
