Freedom of Speech (pg. 9)

IMO, you (by you, I mean people) do what you have the ability to do.

What else can the people who feel outrage do that will make the world listen? Seriously? They can't drop a nuclear bomb on us. They don't have one.

It's like the suicide bombers. If the US gave the kind of $$ to the Palestinians that it gives to the Israelis, do you really think there would be suicide bombers? Prolly not.

I dunno.

I always try to look at the other side. Keeps me sane.

Sadly, suicide bombing doesn't make people listen. It only perpetuates the endless downward spiral of violence, fear and hatred.

What did buddhist monks do when they were protesting against the Vietnam War? They set fire to themselves, which doesn't target civilians who do not necessarily agree with their country's views. Guess what the result was?

yeah i'm just saying that perhaps these people using violence should look at the consequences of what their doing.

all they are doing in instilling in the rest of the world an anti-islamic sentiment. it's only going to happen so long before it comes back to bite them in the ass.

Don't we see hundreds, thousands of children and women die in the poorest, most depraved regions of Africa because of Christian fundamentalism? When 'Christian' administrations withhold funding for health clinics and hospitals and aid because those who work in the clinics or hospitals teach 'birth control,' no one blinks, no one murmurs.

But now, we spit outrage?

Seems a bit hypocritical to me.

No hypocrisy at all. Those who are up in arms about free speech are not Christian fundamentalists. It's secularists. If you read into the responses to the Cartoon Crisis, you'll see that some of the most vocal supporters of abandoning freedom of speech in favour of appeasing muslims are Christians and Orthodox Jews.

Now that is unfair. It's not like all christians are good, and all moslims are the bad, that would be racist. I condamn the church about their statements on condoms just as I condamn the moslim leaders for their role in this whole situation. I mean, they commit horrible crimes on prime time cutting innocent people's heads off. That isn't provocation?? We publish cartoons, and they go all crazy. Did you see any demonstrations or agressive actions from us back then?? The fact is they take their religion as a stupid excuse to be agressive towards the western world. And face it, today, islam IS violent. No other religion is as violent as the islam is. What cristian, jew of hindi would feel like blowing himself up for god? None, not even the extremists in these religions.

Islam isn't about love, cristianity is. Islam is about fate. Fate before everything and war to the infidels. ever since 700, when mohammed had his jihad in arabia and FORCED islam on the arabs it has been agressive. Look, History has prooven that religion gets up the worst in mankind, cristian or islam.

Sand leaper, don't you ever wonder howcome all palestianians own a kalasjnikov? Who paid for it? US and he european union did. We give them money, but they rather spend it on guns and rockets to kill jews than on rather usefull stuff...

Aye, I don't disagree with that. I was merely pointing out that suicide bombing and acts of terror are rather bad ways of expressing resistance to oppression, as it only further perpetuates the misery.
Echo of Silence
I'm not condoning any of this. I just understand it.

I understand why a 18 year old will buckle a bomb on himself and walk into a room full of what he perceives to be the enemy. I understand that it's cuz he feels it will make a difference and he thinks he'll be a hero, a martyr. It's what he's been taught. He doesn't see or know that there are options. He doesn't see or know that there are other ways.

When a people are deprived of education, opportunity, and options, this is what you will have.

If we (the world) spent more time and money educating and providing opportunities for those less fortunate, we would do more towards achieving world peace and harmony than we are able to do by dropping bombs or burning embassies, or yeah, laughing at stupid cartoons.

They gathered far more global sympathy than what muslims who blow themselves up ever will. I think even you got that, and I think even you can figure out where I'm headed on that tangent.

For a lot of these people, the world is only what they know. So they are able to impact the world as they know it with their sacrifice.

Which of course is very sad. Wouldn't we do better if we could expand the world as they know it? Instead of confining and condemning, let's expand and enrich it?
