I would have people over to my house, but im still in my learning phase as an indian chef.
I only know three dishes:
- chicken curry(or beef, which is awesome)
- kema aloo
- mutter aloo |

Fried bananas at sushi places? No... I've been to Japan and I've never had fried banana. They do that in Thailand/cambodia/phillipines I think.
As for Sushi/Japanese, you've got:
Seoul Soul (university plaza... a korean restaurant that also serves sushi... not that great).
Charlie's Lunch Box (bento, etc, pretty good)
Mr. Sushi (the secondary university plaza on the east side of phillip street, good sushi, haven't tried anything else)
Mirage (same plaza... more korean I think... not as good)
Yummiyaki (on Northfield, just east of the expressway, good)
Ichiban (somwhere on Albert? Never been...)
Taka Japanese Restaurant (on bleams, good but expensive)
Sora (I think on Weber, near fairview mall-ish, never been) |
-there's also sakura on King, but it's not very good and very expensive.
-Mirage is bad, they only have sashimi and the centres of most pieces were frozen
the absolute best sushi place In K/W is Niko Niko on King @ Queen. It happens to be a 5 min walk for me which is awesome. it opened back in late december or early january. Their menu has something to be desired, in that they don't sell sushi or sashimi a la carte, nor to they have wakame salad on the menu (altho you can ask for it) They have a lot of creative rolls, the 'love love' roll being my favoite-- they have a wondeful sushi pizza, but too many rolls w/ cheese (ie the philadeliphia roll w/ smoked salmon/cream cheese) trying to cater to north american tastes. I have spoken to the owner about my love for tataki and other more traditional menu items but she was saying that some of the things that fly in TO won't be ordered here in KW.
the only other good sushi place in the area is Nagano in Cambridge, the rest are horrid, except mr sushi is OK for takeout |
