1/2 lb beef
2 medium onions
1/2 green pepper
2 pieces garlic
thumbnail piece of ginger
salt, pepper
rosemary, thyme
soya sauce
teriyaki sauce
teaspoon sesame seed oil
teaspoon olive oil (or whatever cooking oil you use)

-slice beef and veggies into small pieces, dump in bowl
-finely chop ginger and garlic, dump in bowl
-add quarter teaspoon of thyme and rosemary each
-add half teaspoon of pepper. salt shouldn't be necessary but add if needed
-add sesame seed oil
-now here's the tricky part. it all depends on what kind of soya sauce you use. if your soya sauce is the extra salty kind, use about teaspoon. if not, 2. use teriyaki sauce to balance the saltiness of soya sauce and to add a bit of sweetness to the sauce. it's not a precise science I know
-mix up the contents of the bowl. let it sit minimum an hr to get the sauce to soak in.
-fire up the stove, add oil to frying pan (or wok if you got it). turn heat to medium
-add contents of bowl to frying pan. stir occasionally until done.
-taste the sauce once in a while so that it... taste right. add more soya sauce or teriyaki sauce pending on your taste
-when done, add on top of rice or noodles (preferably rice noodles) to serve

Wild brown rice is my favourite.

Dude, you need to go to a store like "Zabeeha Meats" at McCowan and Sheppard or "Nasser Foods" at Lawrence and Warden or this place near Don Mills and Eglinton (can't remember the Muslim name--it's a fairly big place near the Burger King across from some big plaza) and get this BIRYANI mix to mix in with rice (the instructions are right on it).

With the mix and rice, throw in some pre-cooked chicken (the way the Orko mentioned it earlier; slightly seasoned) and you've got yourself the most kick-ass rice dish in the South Asian region: BIRYANI.

that's probabaly nopt convienent for him since he comes to TO from BY state and proabably woudln't be headoing up to those parts, but it's not a bad idea to make a trip up there.

dave: if you like jasmine rice then you will like basmati rice--they are a somewhat similar, jasmine rice is ofourse best for thai cooking, but on it's own basmati is king IMO. I often cook w/ brown basmati rice at home as well. The above stores that have been mentioned, you can get some good mixes and spices to make amazing rice dishes, like safron or sumac for persian rice (i miss persian rice, i'm gonna ask my mom to make it sometime soon when i go home to visit) or masala mix for punjabi style rice.. so yummy..

Sesame oil is not an absolute necessary, but it does add a layer of taste.

Another case of Fahad not paying attention.

How do you get anything done in your life? ;)

Yeah, that is a must on couple of dishes I make.

Thank goodness I'm hitting the Korean food store tomorrow where I will buy a 50lb sack of rice. (usually lasts me about 6 months)
